Greetings everyone!

It is with a sad but hopeful heart that I wish to solicit the support of the entire Steemitblog and charity communities to join hands to facilitate this mega project. As the adage goes, when you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. But when you teach a man how to fish, you feed home for a lifetime. It is my sincere desire to add value to the lives of Nigerian Students, particularly those in public universities who have been kept out of school for about over 4 months now with no end in sight due to the current impasse between the lecturers' labour union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government of Nigeria. Recall the current strike started on the 14 of February, 2022 and has continued till now with no hope in sight as it has recently been extended for another 3 months. This current industrial action come on the heels of years of neglect of the public university system which has given Nigerian Universities a bad image globally, and perpetually results in the poor grooming if students for functional living after school.

PROPOSAL

The current proposal is intended to save these students from poverty, substance abuse due to anxiety and hopelessness, commercial sex work and financial crimes due to poverty, and being used as political thugs and saboteurs during this election period by selfish politicians. These students are in a very precarious and vulnerable situation. Hence, we have come together after adequate consultation to fashion out this project to provide these students with both the skills of blogging and creative writing, arts, and whatever else Steemit has to offer them.

The Team

• I @eliany will be coordinating this project. I have consulted my fellow Steemians locally and I must say, I've been able to assemble the best hands for this initiative to come to fruition. On the team for this project, I have the following:

• @nsisong99 A Counselling Psychologist and Lecturer University of Uyo, he is ready to help us recruit serious minded students for the empowerment programme and already, he is working on the training module, volunteering his knowledge and skills as an educator at the highest level to our advantage.

• @ngoenyi; The indefatigable African/Country Rep on Steemit, she has volunteered her office as the training center for this empowerment project and would be taking part actively in the 8 week long training programme.

• @ddwosky; Our tech consultant, Very excited about this initiative, he has volunteered to take part in the technical aspects of the training bringing his knowledge of computer applications to our advantage.

• @benton3; Another tech guru, who's equally excited about this initiative and is ready to join hands in training the students to master the rudiments of Steemit and promote the platform.

• @goodybest she is an active steemian who is read and willing to assist this new ones on how to make quality post and promote the platform.

• @michael-akpan; Another great and very passionate steemian who is ready to join us in assisting the students get up to speed with their Achievement Programmes.

The Plan

An initial target of 100 undergraduate students would be trained on steemit on a running basis in batches of 25 trainees per week. The training will run for 2 months and the curriculum has already been designed to allow them complete their Newcomers Achievement Programmes within the first month of training.
The believe is that when emphasis is on their learning and competing their achievement tasks within this time frame, they would have effectively learned the nitty-gritty of Steemit and would be in great morale to carry on, productively.

The Requirements

• Facilities: A suitable training center has already been provided courtesy @ngoenyi. But minor upgrades would be needed to get the place ready and up to speed for use.

• WiFi: Due to the high cost of internet access in Nigeria, it has been proposed that free WiFi be provided at the training venue for the beneficiaries. This would entail buying a new WiFi modern and installing in site for use. Cost of WiFi Router with 2 months data subscription adds up to about NGN 55,000 (about 360 Steem)

• Laptops: To facilitate the training, it is recommended that at least 5 laptop systems be on site during training sessions to aid learning. So far, 1 laptop has been offered for use for the 8weeks by @nsisong99 and we still expect to procure 4 more. A fairly used laptop costs about NGN 120,000 (about 770 Steem), so so procure 4 laptops would cost about 3000 Steem.

• Power Supply: Due to the poor power supply situation, the training will depend on power generators for regular power supply. Already the team has been offered a generating set for the 8 weeks period, courtesy of @ddwosky. What's needed now is the fuel to run the generator for the period of the training. It is estimated that 6 liters of gasoline would be needed per day (6 x 40 days= 240 liters @NGN180 per liter =NGN43,000, about 275 Steem) and 4 liters of engine oil @NGN 9,200.

That brings the total for our power supply needs for the 8 weeks to about 335 Steem.

• Promotional tools; we will need steem branded t-shirts for the team members, flyers and banner for this promotion empowerment program.

Promotions

The team hopes to run promotions to get more people aware of Steemit and generate leads through the students who would take part in this empowerment. Hence as part of their training, each successful student would also invite at least 5 new people to be trained withing the last 4 weeks of their training This is initiative would have a multiplier effect, bringing the total number of those empowered to 600, 100 direct and 500 indirect beneficiaries.

Our Request plan

We are hereby soliciting the support of the Steemit team to help facilitate this project. We aim at raising @ full dolphin of Steem (5000 Steem) for this project to train 600 undergraduate students of Nigerian Universities, 400 females and 200 males over a period of 2 months.

We are confident, that this project would appeal to and meet your kindest yearnings to touch lives positively through Steemit. We look forward to your generous support and feedbacks.

But for the mean time, the team has contributed to start up the project. So with the little we have we are starting the project on Monday, 06-06-2022 but we will still need support to run through the number of months that we need to cover this project.

Conclusion

It is believed that with the support of the Steemit blog, we can get these students who have been disadvantaged by the protracted strike by their lecturers out of the trenches and away from delinquent acts and empower then through this engagement to contribute meaningfully bother tho their lives and to the Steemit blog.
