SEC WKS: The Language in my Country.
SEC WKS: The Language in my Country.
Language, as defined by Webster's Dictionary, is a body of words and a set of methods for combining them (called grammar), understood by a community and used as a form of communication. Oxford Dictionary further elaborates, describing language as the principal method of human communication, consisting of words used in a structured and conventional way, conveyed through speech, writing, or gesture. It serves as a tool for communication, ordering, expressing emotions, and sharing thoughts.
Nigeria is the name of my country, situated in West Africa, is marked by its vast diversity. With a population exceeding 200 million, Nigeria stands as Africa's most populous country and largest democracy. Enriched by different cultures, it boasts of over 300 ethnic groups and more than 500 languages. Prominent among these are:
Hausa (over 80 million, including L2 speakers)
Yoruba (over 54 million, including L2 speakers)
Igbo (over 42 million, including L2 speakers)
Fulfulde (13 million)
Kanuri (5 million)
Tiv (5 million)
Ibibio
Annang
Oron
Efik
Delta Igbos
Nupe (3 million)
Karai-Karai Kupa
Kakanda
Edo
Igala
Idoma
Izon, and many more.
Personally, I am conversant and familiar with three Nigerian languages: Igbo, Ibibio, and Yoruba.
These languages serve as a vital connection to my roots, enabling me to seamlessly identify with my people, regardless of my location. Moreover, speaking these languages has provided insights into how different communities perceive and understand life.
Of course, yes. Considering the profound impact of language on identity and unity, I am committed to passing on this linguistic heritage to my children. In addition to English, the official language, I aim to instill in them a knowledge of Igbo, Ibibio, and Yoruba.
Research indicates that fluency in others' languages fosters goodwill, increasing social integration.
I extend sincere appreciation to the organizers of this contest for providing a platform to share insights into my language.
Thank you for investing time in reading about the rich linguistic tapestry of Nigeria.
I eagerly anticipate contributing more to this platform.
I extend invitations to @zekanem @bossj23, and @m-fdo to participate in this engaging contest.

Nicely written and apt, Nigeria is very vast and diverse and I sometimes wonder how over 500 languages can exist in a country. I admire the fact that you can speak 3 native languages. That is something I find very tasking, maybe because a my life I grew up in my state. Nonetheless I wish you the best in this engagement challenge. Do well to comment on other people's post to increase your chances. Also edit your post and make newcomer the first tag and steem4nigeria-s15w2 should be your second tag which is the competition tag. Without that your entry maybe deemed invalid. Cheers.
