ENGAGEMENT, HOW SHOULD IT BE

I do love to be engaging myself with this incredible and crucial topic discussion on "Engagement". I know you do love to hear out my opinion, please sit back let's learn together!..}

WHAT IS ENGAGEMENT IN A RELATIONSHIP?

I will like to make my definition clear and understandable by explaining what these two words "Engagement" and "Relationship" means.

Engagement: This simply means a formal or official agreement to marry. It is a period in which one is pledged to be married any time soon.

Relationship: A relationship can be said to be any kind of connection, involvement or association between people, be it intimate, positive or negative and platonic. It is mostly a close connection between two people, which involves romantic or sexual feelings.

Therefore, "engagement in a relationship" terms to be that one decision a guy takes up to be inducted to his lady, by proposing to her, asking her to marry him for a lifetime.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD A GUY OR LADY BE ENGAGED?

When this two persons start up a relationship, normally the guy is meant to be more older than the lady which we believe aids more respect in the relationship. Guys do not have a specific age to engage a girl that is why you see a guy dating good number of girls for almost 10-15 years of his life while trying to figure out the rightful person.

But traditionally our guys are meant to engage a girl at least from his late 20's inorder to bear children earlier and also take care of them properly while still young.

The ladies are expected to be engaged at least from 22-23years old and above. We do have time when we can't conceive again which is the menopause stage, and so every young lady shouldn't miss their chances of getting married once they are engaged.

WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU CONSIDER IN A PERSON BEFORE ENGAGING OR ACCEPTING ENGAGEMENT?

Before I can be able to accept my guy's proposal, we must have sat down to know where exactly this relationship is heading to, and I will pray and watch well to avoid mistakes. More things i will put into consideration is this, knowing the purpose why he wants to marry me, know what and what he would love to achieve with me, If he is a dream supporting type of person and help me build it.

I will also check to know, if he can be able to take up decision by himself or we put hands together to make the decision other than getting it from outside, If he supports my career prospect. 'With all these I can be able to consider getting engaged to him and marry him.'

HOW LONG IS RIGHT FOR ENGAGEMENT BEFORE MARRIAGE?

From the knowledge I have grabbed from this engagement of a thing, I think engagement is not meant to take for long at least, for two people that newly knew each other, they should at least spend Upto 4 to 6 months. While those ones that know them already should at least use two months to study each other well and take proper lecture on marriage before proceeding.

ARE THERE THINGS THAT CAN CHANGE SOMEONE'S MIND AFTER ENGAGEMENT?

For a man to have engaged a lady and she too accepts means you love and trust each other and do not need to look outside, unless you're not ready for marriage or you don't love and trust your partner enough, then you can quit before it becomes too late.

Certainly, there are more things that can also change ones mind after engagement which can be where there is lost of trust, lost of love, care and attention. A lady's bad character can make a man quit from marriage unless he have taken up the responsibility to endure and help her change.

Another is this, if a mother in-law starts acting up on the lady thereby making her feel uncomfortable in her home to be, it can actually make a lady quit. Cheating while still engaged is absolutely wrong and can make the relationship have a crack.

IS ENGAGEMENT A GUARANTEE FOR MARRIAGE?

Yes, it is. Do you know why?? That's because while this two people are still still engaged, they get to know more better who their spouse to be are. That period is also when they both get proper counseling about marriage.

As for me, I cannot marriage without engagement because it's from there I will get to know more about what am signing up for.

Engagement before marriage is necessary to take part in, it exposes you the more and it is generally known in Igbo land that a lady will have to be lectured properly as she is still engaged to be married.
