2: There is also the act of keeping surveillance by the police in the areas prone to robbery and kidnapping. They also patrol streets and major roads within the states as well as mount road blocks on our highways especially at night in order to scare away potential robbers.
These government security men jeopardize their lives so as to ensure the safety of citizens.

3: Another way the government had ensured the safety of citizens is through enlightenment campaign on the need to be security conscious through its national orientation agency using various communication means such as the media. Adverts such as “if you see something, say something” is intended to help the citizens participate in their safety by reporting suspected criminal acts or persons.

4: Again, the introduction of security education in the nations educational sector beginning from primary to the tertiary institution is another way the government have been trying to keep the citizens safe. It’s hoped that when citizens understand the importance of security and ways to prevent insecurity, they would contribute meaningfully to the process of achieving safety.

5: The government have attempted creating employment opportunities for the youth (though not enough) as a way of keeping them away from criminal acts and being gainfully engaged. The have created skill acquisition centers, made access to loans and grants available to desiring youth.

6: The government had also formulated and enacted laws against perpetrators of crime and insecurity.

However, from the look of things, the government effort have not yielded the desired result because there are high level of insecurity in the country. People are being robbed, kidnapped and killed on daily basis, lives and properties are daily exposed to many dangers and life threatening situations. Therefore the government needs to do more to ensure that citizens are safe.

To be safe in the town or country, I disassociate myself from acts, people and group which I suspect may put me or my family into danger. I try to be mindful of the kind of information I give out during a conversation especially in a public place. I also discourage late nights movements and response to some distress calls which I suspect may be a trap.

Above all, I trust God almighty for my safety because all my effort would be fruitless without him psalm 127:1”except the Lord watches over a city, the watchman watches in vain.

I witnessed a robbery in my street. Some group of guys, young men actually alighted from a bus and rushed into a restaurant, threatened the people there and made them surrendered and snatched a car from a customer. People in the street started running for safety. As they drove the car away, a pole distance within the street, they stopped to snatch another car, the driver on noticing them, sped up and drove away. As the attempt to chase after the man with the first car they snatched, it could not start so they had to abandon it and run away all thanks to the response of the corps in the area who was alerted.

To keep a home secure, mind the kind of people you welcome into your apartment or house. Ensure that everywhere is well locked before going to bed and while away, Check up things such as cooking gas, electric connections which may result in fire outbreak.

Security has to do with safety within our environment. Everyone including the government and individuals have roles to ensure our safety in the country. Therefore, lets play our parts in security process to ensure that we can close our eyes in assurance that we are protected and safe.
