**SEC15 WK3: "Growing up in a Rural or Urban Area"**

Where we stay or find ourselves says a lot about the impact we receive in life. We can't talk about the exposure we earn without emphasizing the kind of place we find ourselves.

Rural and Urban places are two different dwelling places with some remarkable differences. What is rural in one area of a state or country may be a typical urban standard in another.

Differentiate between urban and rural areas stating three major features

There is more infrastructural development seen in the urban centers vis-a-vis what we have in the rural areas. Some of the infrastructural development may include the concentration of tarred and accessible roads, more stable electricity supplies, and other social amenities. These things may be found in rural areas but not significant enough like what we have in the urban centers.

Also, urban areas are mainly industrialized places. We have a large concentration of industries and other companies around it, unlike the rural areas. This directly impacts the rural-to-urban migration we see today as many continue to look for jobs. Companies would prefer to cite their companies where there is proximity to government intervention, availability of social amenities to ease the cost of production, and availability of market or clusters of people.

Lastly, urban areas are known to be High-tech areas. The level of exposure we get from centers of this nature cannot be found in rural areas. No matter how we try, there is no how we could get the same level of development and exposure from our villages just like the way we see in cities.

Which area did you grow up and why?

I grew up in an urban area. It was not my making but that of my parents who happened to be living in one of the commercial cities of the north. Kano is the commercial hub of the north with varying business activities that go on in it. I was lucky to experience life over there.

If you were told to go to the area you didn't grow up from, would you?

There won't be any need to get less from the area I didn't get to grow up from. Since I grew up in an urban area, it simply means I did enjoy the high technological exposure it offers, other great social amenities, and job opportunities that I enjoyed as a supportive means of income.

Wanting to go to the rural area means getting less of some of these privileges which is a no for me. I rather prefer going to a more developed and exposed city other than somewhere lower than the already acquired standard.

What things are there in the area you grew up from that aren't in the other?

I have already said most of them while trying to describe between those two areas. The urban cities have more concentration of government presence and parastatals which makes it easy to access dividends of governance.

There are a lot higher levels of technological exposure in urban areas which better still equip its dwellers than what we have in the rural areas.

Better educational standards and access to social amenities are better seen in urban areas unlike what we get from rural areas.
