My Neighborhood Watch #6 - Reporting Events Around us

in Steem4Nigerialast year

Hello, friends of this beautiful community. I am here again to share some of my state's neighborhood watch reports. Without wasting time, there has been chaos in Aba, the Enyimba city, and commercial hub of the state. Just to give a little highlight to what has become a terrain in the region which has become stronger in the state. Most residents in the southeastern regions have continued to indulge in a practice known as Sit-At-Home.

This is the emancipation of one of their leaders who is currently in detention by the central government. It is a solidarity move put in place to help press their grievances on his release. During such days, businesses in the region/states are shut down. Economically, this has been draining the states. The situation has not been funny ever before now.

On the other hand, it has continued to be impactful as the security agencies are unable to provide the required support and protection for individuals who ordinarily would want to defy these illegal orders. The few who tried this were either attached or killed by the enforcers of the sit-at-home order.

Back to the events that happened yesterday and as well having some effect today. Some unknown gunmen at the peak of the day, masked to the teeth came attaching some uniform personnel in the Ariaria International market. It happened in a bizarre manner that took everyone by surprise. Two policemen were gunned down and their patrol vehicles were burnt.

To the amazement of everyone, their riffles were collected by these unknown gunmen. One would want to wonder, why killing uniformed men who did not obstruct or interfere in your activities. All they came to do was offer a security presence to buyers and sellers in the market. Maybe, my instincts tell me that they actually came to pick up their riffles. But on the other hand, disarming them without wasting their lives would have been the best alternative. These are people's fathers who woke up just like every other person for the day.

Immediately after this happened, people around and passersby began to leave the scene as there would be only one option which was mass arrest. I wouldn't know if this happened when I'd left the area but that would usually be the outcome. But we had the hit of this today. I had to follow my hubby out when he was driving out to work and stopped by along his route.

It was just an hour before some trucks of security personnel arrived at one of the popular junctions also close to the scene of the previous day and started shooting sporadically. People were seen running and scampering for safety as the atmosphere became intense which created much panic.

After a while, when I was done with my mid-week fellowship, I headed home for relative safety. On getting home, we also to another devasting news from another state in the same region. Enugu is one of the peaceful states in the region but surprisingly there are uprisings from that end. It is quite saddening that people also lost their lives today while protesting the government's decision to lock up their shops for failure to open up for activities on Monday's sit-at-home day.

The posters who were mainly traders and small-scale entrepreneurs went to the streets to show their displeasure and the inappropriate actions from the government were shot at. Two civilians at this point lost their lives. This isn't a good way of ending the month of July. We also learned that one of the enforcers of this order who stays in Finland has issued that uniform men should also be attacked in like mind.

If not checked, this may likely escalate into more unforeseen crises. I do hope appropriate measures are taken to advert possible crises.

@chilaw, thank you somuch for alarming us of the present condition of your state. A quoter said: where there's bad leadership, the people shed crocodile tears. Everything, if not almost, presently happening in Nigeria is because of the bad government failing to play their roles..... Research had reveal that 95% of those gun men are educated elites, but Government negligence has contributed to those actions.... I pray, God introduces a new ruling system that will skyrocket Nigerians to an high level
