The Diary Game || 23-02-24 || Harvesting essential commodities in the farm to prevent purchasing them
picture of me with my essential commodities
Dear Diary,
It was a Friday morning and a perfect day to visit the farm as rain poured down its water the previous day after 6 good months of dry season. This was the day all farmers were waiting for. So majority who have farms like us prepared our minds to go there as early as possible so as to leave the farm before sunrise. My mother as a farm lover told me the previous night that we would go to the farm the next day. I was quite excited as the purchase of Garri would be a history for 2 months plus.
My day did go well as I went to the farm, went to school for presentation rehearsals, visited my coursemate and Christian Brother, went to the cassava mill where the cassava is ground and pressed to Garri, and reviewed posts on Steemit. It was quite hectic though. I felt my eyes lagged seriously for the first time. Yesterday was the day I felt pressured into procrastinating. Let me give you the narratives.
Morning Activities |
---|
On a Friday morning, my mom and I set out of the house to the farm as early as 5:30Am as I told her I had a lot to do that day. We left for the farm on foot as the farm is a stone throw from our house. Barely did I see people outside as it was still early. This is my mum, ever ready to farm. She taught us well.
On my way to the farm, I carried three important things I can't do without in the farm and that was my phone, music box and hoodie. Without these three things, I won't be able to farm well. I left home with them. On getting to the farm, I wasn't that scared because it was a small piece of land. The other part of the land is ready for planting and was burned. So we had little work to do that morning.
While my mom started inside, I faced the front of the farm. The process wasn't much and difficult. It was just to cut of the stems of a cassava stand and then hold the tip and shake it off from the ground to know where the cassava is branched. After doing this, you pull it out steadily and cut the cassava for packing. That was how we did it.
While ensuring my harvest in front is completed, I stumbled on a big cassava stem that needed shovel to harvest. In the absence of no shovel, I used my matchet in tilling the soil left, right, forward and backward and then with great strength, I pulled it out.
Most of the cassava attached to the stem died inside die to rot. This was the outcome of the tillage. It wasn't that easy but it came out finally. My music box was the best of entertainment I could ever have that morning. I then continue further. We did a lot of harvest not until we cleared all the cassava stems in the farm. We didn't throw the stems away. My mom told us where to store it so we can use it for replanting as the stem is a good one and would yield.
After the harvest, package and storage of cassava and its stems, we took to harvesting cocoyam which is used as a local food. This local food produce contains lot of nutrients in it and is loved by most especially when **fried, cooked and eaten whole or cooked and eaten pounded. The **cocoyam was much no doubt and a slice of one of the cocoyam can give you your heart desires.
While harvesting the cocoyam, a bean cake trader passed with it and we called to buy the bean cake so we would be more energised to work. This is a picture of the beans cake sold to us. I ate it no doubt to hold my bitting stomach. When we were done with everything, it was just 8:20Am. We did a great job worthy of the medal.
We started assembling all the cassava and cocoyams to the wheelbarrow we brought. It was fun to see me hold two **essential commodities;
Cocoyams | Cassava |
---|---|
This is an alternative for garri and eba and can be eaten whole. It is sometimes classified as a weed but is very rich in good in nutrients where we can all benefits without having to purchase it | This is an essential commodity now because a cup of it is now 200 naira which is equivalent to 0.5 steem. |
This essential commodity would last for a long period of time | Frying these quantity is money conservative and time saver. It's better than purchasing it as an exorbitant rate. |
After harvesting, I took the Cassava home on a wheel. This is a picture of me holding my essential commodities tight. On getting home, I kept the cassava one place for peeling as I was already late for school. I got my bath and ate my breakfast of rice and Stew before setting off. One of my mentor told me the presentation won't hold and that I should stay back. I went outside seeing my mom prepare;

I ignored because I didn't want to take such chances. On my way to school, I placed a call and it happened just as my mentor told me. The presentation was adjourned. In order to avoid wasting transportation fare, I visited some friends nearby. Before embarking on this visit, I took to buying the freshly plucked coconut kept for sell. Can you imagine these big ones are for the rate of 0.5 steem.
I started by visiting my coursemate of which he told me his predicament. I tried solving it with him but to no avail. We spent ample time together and he did take me out to see places. He treated me well, more like a visitor. On returning, I thanked him for the host as he saw me off his street. I was just admiring how hardworking those there are. No one wants to play during this period of planting
After checking up on my coursemate, I took to visiting a Christian brother who encouraged me in just the few minutes I spent with him. I then left for home. My mom called me to stopped by somewhere to negotiate price of the cassava for grinding and pressing. Before going there as was expected, I took some junk foods that would hold my stomach. On arriving there, my eyes caught sight of the accessibility of the account. How much is this, I asked the woman.?
We bargained for over 15 minutes before she finally accepted.

With all these, I was really stressed that I felt so lazy to do anything. Procrastination was my watch word because I was contemplating whether I'll make a post or not. I then came to this decision. I'll write tomorrow as my eyes were lagging. I took my breakfast of soup and the cooked cocoyam. The enjoyment is a typical **heaven enjoyment or feeling. That was how my day ended.
