Steemit Engagement Challenge (SEC)| S12W6- "My country; My Home."

in Steem4Nigerialast year (edited)

INTRODUCTION

I'm a proud Nigeria and will always be a proud one. We will get better. The changes start from us. We have a significant youth population we plead with the government to invest in education, job training, and other beneficial opportunities. It will help the youths to not stay idle or get involved in anything detrimental to the image of the country.

Tell us about your Home (country), a brief history, will be an added advantage

My home town is Nigeria, globally known as the giant of Africa. Nigeria is a country in West Africa, with a complex and diverse history. It was once several different kingdoms and societies, including the Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo. In the 1800s, the British took control of the region and established the colony of Nigeria. Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, and became a republic in 1963. After independence in 1960, Nigeria faced a civil war and military rule, but it has since developed into a leading African country with a growing economy.

Nigeria faced numerous challenges after independence, including ethnic and religious tensions, political instability, and a civil war (Biafran War) from 1967 to 1970.
Nigeria transitioned back to civilian rule in 1999, with Olusegun Obasanjo becoming the first democratically elected president.
Until now we have His Excellency Bola Tinubu as the president.

Why do you think your country is unique? Share at least 3 points

As a heterogeneous society just like most societies out there, Music, the Igba-Boi(Igbo apprenticeship system) economic concept, and art are characteristics that make my society unique from others and help us to relate to our immediate environment and the larger global community in our way.

--Afrobeat which is a Nigerian music genre is something that has enveloped the globe just like it was with hip-hop music in the '60s, '70s, and '80s respectively. This has earned my country great recognition among the community of nations and reemphasizes that we are indeed the Giant of Africa. Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Teni, Asake, and Ayrrh Star. etc. are our top A-list music artists.

---Igba-Boi or Igbo apprenticeship system is a form of economic concept widely practiced in Eastern Nigeria. This is an economic concept that operates formally and informally wherein, an entrepreneur or trader takes in an apprentice to learn a trade and serve a master for several years. Upon completion of this stipulated number of years, the apprentice is settled with the same business by his or her master. This concept has been resourceful in the transfer of wealth from one generation to another and as much as human capital development.

--Art......... Nigeria has a rich and diverse tradition of art that spans centuries and encompasses various forms and styles.
Nigerian art is a reflection of the country's rich cultural diversity and historical heritage. The following are key aspects of art in Nigeria.
1: Traditional African mask
2: Sculpture
3: Mask
4: Textiles
5:Contemprary
6:Music and Dance.
7: pottery and Ceramics
8: Nollywood
9: literature.

Would you leave your country to settle in another if an opportunity shows up? Back up your answer with reasons.

Most certainly I'd move to settle elsewhere if the opportunity presented itself. And they're for various reasons ranging from improving my material and living standards to education, and tourism. etc. Traveling they say is part of education. Leaving my country for another offers me the opportunity to learn about different cultures, cousins, fashions, traditions, religions, science, and the whole lot that comes with wherever I settle. Other reasons why I would leave if there is an opportunity include,

1 : The economy of my country isn’t working. We work so hard and earn so little. There’s no value for every labor or rather little value for the heavy labor.

Have you wondered how you work and get paid hourly in another country??
Their economy is working, Money is in circulation, and no matter what they do they earn something reasonable

2 : I know people say stuff like tax but you are earning and whatever it is you earn can foot your bills if you’re hardworking but here even what you earn isn’t enough you end up being indebted because the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep struggling to make ends meet.

3 : We also have a selfish government where the affairs of the citizens mean nothing to them. That’s why they can increase the salaries of politicians who are already rich and the minimum wage for an average Nigerian is 30k with fuel subsidy being removed

What areas of your home (country) would you love to see an improvement?

Particularly, I'd love to see development in the rural areas from what it currently is. The provision of social amenities. High-speed internet network that helps residents connect with friends and families wherever they may be on the phase of the earth. Mechanization of Agriculture in rural areas from the traditional way that it currently is. This would increase the yield of agricultural products for local consumption and exports. Proceeds from here can be reinvested in another enterprise.

In conclusion

No matter the bad times in our country, we are still going to be citizens. Even if we leave for another country and become their citizen, we will still return to our roots either alive or dead. We should be the change we want. Good government starts with you and me.

I appreciate the time you spent reading this and I look forward to reading yours.
