Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 24: Giving and how it should e done

in Steem4Nigeria9 months ago

INTRODUCTION

Giving is the act of offering something, whether it be time, money, resources, or energy, to others, without expecting anything in return. It is a selfless act, motivated by compassion and a desire to make a positive difference in the world. Giving can take many forms, from making a donation to a charity, to volunteering your time, to simply helping a neighbor in need. Regardless of the form it takes, giving has the potential to make a lasting impact on the lives of others.

What is your definition of "Giving"

Although giving has different meanings to different people. But I would say giving, to me, is the act of sharing your time, money, resources, knowledge, skills, and talents with others, without expecting anything in return. It's an act of compassion, empathy, and kindness, and it can bring about positive change in the world. Giving is not just about material things; it can also be about giving your time and attention to those in need.

Giving is not just about making a donation or giving something physical; it's also about giving your time and attention to those who need it. For example, you can give by volunteering your time at a local shelter or soup kitchen, listening to a friend who is going through a tough time, or offering your services to someone in need. Giving can also mean being there for someone who is struggling, even if all you can do is listen. In this way, giving is about building connections and relationships with others, and showing that you care.

What should be the right motive behind giving

I believe that the right motive behind giving is a desire to help others and to make a positive impact on the world. It should come from a place of empathy and compassion, not from a desire for recognition or approval. Giving with the right motive means giving because you genuinely want to help others, not because you want something in return. It's about doing something good for someone else, even if it's not convenient or easy for you.

One important aspect of giving with the right motive is that it should be done without expecting recognition or appreciation. Giving should come from a place of humility, and you should not expect to be praised or thanked for your actions. Doing good deeds for the sake of feeling good about yourself or making others think highly of you is not the right reason to give. Instead, you should give because you genuinely want to make a difference in someone's life.

Do you believe in giving and publicizing the act. I.e sharing on social media

There are arguments on both sides of this issue. On the one hand, some people believe that publicizing your acts of giving can serve as an inspiration to others and encourage them to give as well. It can also be a way to raise awareness about important causes and organizations. However, others believe that giving should be done in a more private and humble way, without seeking the limelight or recognition.

Some people argue that publicizing your acts of giving can have unintended negative consequences. For example, it could create a sense of competition among donors, or it could lead to people giving only for the sake of getting recognition, rather than out of a genuine desire to help others. It could also create a sense of inequality, where those who are able to give more publicly are seen as more generous than those who give more quietly. Another concern is that publicizing giving could put pressure on people to give more than they can afford.

Mention some of the ways you think the act of giving should not be done
  • First, I think it's important to avoid giving with the intention of controlling or manipulating the recipient. For example, giving with the expectation that the recipient will act a certain way, or giving with the goal of getting something in return, is not a good way to give.

  • Second, I don't think it's appropriate to give in a way that makes the recipient feel embarrassed or ashamed. Third, giving should not be used as a way to gain power or influence over others.

  • Thirdly, giving should not be done in a way that puts the giver's needs ahead of the receiver's needs.

In conclusion.

Giving is a personal act of kindness that should come from a place of genuine compassion. It should not be done for the wrong reasons, such as a desire for recognition or power. The true value of giving lies in the good it can do for others, and the positive impact it can have on the world. Giving should be done with respect, humility, and empathy, and should always prioritize the needs of the reciever.
