Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 34: Time Changes
Having lived for some decades, I have observed so many things coming and going just like people are given birth to and others die off.
The situation is faced by other physical things that exist. So time and events changes.
In this contest, I am going to write more on this topic using the contest tips provided. The topic is Time Changes.
Mention 5 things that was there in your country 10 years back that isn't here now?
° During my primary school days in the eighties, there is a footwear named Bata shoe. It is one of the best quality shows we had with pure leather. The product is names after the company name. It is a thing of pride to go to the company to buy a pair of shoe there.
The good things about this shoe product is that even your younger ones can wear it, when you have outgrown it. It was of a very good leather quality. This days, it is very rare to get footwears of that quality at an affordable price.
° Malted Biscuit
This biscuit was available during my childhood. It was very nutritious and cannot be compared to any average biscuit we have now. It was as if it was made with only milk and malt. It was really enjoyed by many children as snacks.
° Video Cassette playing machines.
These were machines used to play video tapes . Many families bought it and used it to watch Western and Indiana films back in those days. But today, it is history since it has been replaced with flash drives and other current technological innovations.
° Land and table top phones
These are the type of phones that you dial or tap in the number you want to call. However, these phone have been replaced by mobile phones and seems to be non-existent now.
° The next thing not existing again is the use of films and negatives for photography. These negatives can be processed to develop more copies of the photographs as far as it is kept in good shape. But today, it is not in existence anymore.
Is the value of currency used in your country appreciating or depreciating?
Every one Interested in the economic condition of my country is aware that the value of it's currency is on a depreciating lane. In fact over the past six months, the exchange rate of my currency to dollars have doubled. This have caused a considerable increase in prices of good and services, as well as cost of living in general.
Deliberate on the prices of 5 commodities in your country 10 years back and now.
SN | Commodity | price 10yrs ago | price now |
---|---|---|---|
1 | A Bag of Rice | $5 | $54 |
2 | tin of milk | $0.06 | $0.4 |
3 | A big loaf of bread | $0.13 | $1.13 |
4 | A little of fuel | $0.1 | $0.4 |
5 | A mobile phone | $15.3 | $53.3 |
6 | A bag of cement | $1 | $7 |
.
This is just a few of the commodities and a comparison of their prices 10 years ago. From the table you can see the effect of both exchange rate and inflation. This is seriously affecting peoples standard of living in my country.
Has these changes affected you? If yes, how. If no, tell us your secrets
I am not living outside the globe, moreso outside my country. So this is affecting me seriously. The cost of living is very high and to get employment is very difficult since most jobs are reserved for those children whose parents are manning the higher positions already.
The cost of rent have also trippled within 4 years, transportation and cost of food and clothing, which are basic necessities are on the high side too.
I must say that this platform have been helpful to me and many others financially. This have helped us to cope with this problem to an extent. I will continue to try everything my hand can do to assist me with the current condition too.
Conclusion
It is very obvious that with the passage of time so many things changes, even the span of life keeps reducing as the days goes by.
So we should be ready to adjust to be able to cope with whatever changes life brings to us.
