Introduction

Good day to you, I welcome you to my page.

Here I'm going to be discussing about the topic My Country and Her Mineral Resources.

I talk about my country, the natural resources it has, and the way it has been managed.

As you go through the write-up, I hope it will be worth your while.

Give us a brief introduction about your country.

My country is Nigeria. And it is located in a land that is vast and the people that Inhabit the place are diverse in their languages.

The population of the people is also the largest in Africa.

The formation of the country is from a patchwork different regions which includes swamps, mountains, plains, steamy jungles, and deserts.

The river system found in it is one of the largest in the world. And it includes the Niger Delta, which is one of the third largest in the world.

Nigeria has more than 200 languages and it can be up to 400. It's music and art industry is derived from its strong tribal roots.

The country is blessed with natural resources including oil.

What is/are the mineral resources your country is blessed with

Nigeria has a lot of natural resources spread across different states.

I shall be bring light to some of the mineral resources in each of these regions.

In Abia state there are Gold, Lead, Zinc, etc. In Abuja, there are Clay, Dolomite, Tantalite, etc.

In Adamawa state, there are Bentonite, Gypsum, etc. In Akwa Ibom state there are Oil & Gas, Lead & Zinc, Limestone, and Salt & Uranium.

There are much more in the remaining states of our country.

From what is written above, we can see that there is a lot of mineral resources found in our country.

Has these mineral resources been fully harnessed

Sadly enough, the answer to this question is a big NO. It's so shameful to say that with all the resources found in each state and in the country at large, they have not been utilized to the fullest.

Don't get me wrong, some of the mineral resources have been utilized, but it is just to a certain degree.

The main industry that is being utilized the most is the oil and gas industry, but it is not even utilized to its fullest 🤦‍♂️

There are a lot of shoddiness and corruption that goes on in the oil and gas industry. A lot of politicians and their cronies are jostling for oil wells and blocks.

A lot of tankers and vessels are being stolen on the high seas.

We produce oil, but yet we still export it out for refining before bringing it back for sales in the country, thus increasing the price.

Then asides the oil, most other natural resources are not utilized as much as oil. So they mostly lie in waste.

Has the proceeds from these resources been used properly by your government for the welfare of her citizens...support your answer (Yes/No) with good points.

Again, the answer to this question is a big fat NO.

Like I have stated earlier on, our government has misused the mineral resources given to us naturally especially oil.

They have put a hang on the activities of the oil industry so much that the effects of it is not fully felt.

For one, you can imagine that as an oil producing country, we don't have functional refineries in place. This is for more than 20 years.

Also, there is always incessant hoarding and hiking of fuel prices which affects the common man negatively.

Even light, no constant light that we depend on generators. Thereby making the people to buy more fuel.

Finally, the roads are bad, no light, there is an increase in fuel prices and so much more. And Nigeria happens to be the country with the highest number of poor people.

So you can imagine how the resources are being managed.

It's so sad that Nigeria is a country with the highest number of poor people despite the rich abundance of resources nature has given her.
