ENGAGEMENT, HOW SHOULD IT BE.

What is Engagement in a relationship ?

The agreement between two people, a female and a male who wish or agree to grow their relationship from courtship stage to marriage stage, Which involve an exchange of something to show how serious the person is. Exchange of something could be Necklace, Wristwatch, Ring, Shoes, Apple, Bible, Car key and many more.

At what age should a guy or lady be engaged ?

Engagement depends on individual because before a guy or a lady involve in it, it needs to be mature enough to be a responsible man or woman. In essence, according to Nigeria constitution, an adult of 18year and above is entitled to get married. A lady of this age can be engaged but when it comes to a guy, I think from 24year is mature to be engaged.

What are the things you consider in a person before engaging or accepting engagement ?

There are so many things to consider but all this depend on individual desire. In my opinion, I think few things listed below should be considered

• Compatibility
  Before a person accepted engagement he/she should be able to know if two of them can accommodate each other. Is my spirit mine in peace with this person? Can I tolerate his or her attitude? Is my opinion welcome?. Questions like this will make you to know if you are important in his or her life, from they you can happily accept the engagement.

• Should be Responsible
  Before a guy or a lady accept engagement, he should be able to handle and solve problem instead of blaming the opposite.

• Have Respect to himself
  Having respect include respecting God, the spouse family and the spouse. It should be some one who is truthful, some one that is yes is yes and no is no before considering engagement. When once respect is there, love, cherish and many more are will definitely be there too.

• Future
  Considering the future of your spouse before accepting engagement is very important. Your spouse should involve in business, working either for the government, company or some one, knowing fully well that at the end of the day or month, he/ she will be able to setting some bills and take responsibilities of the need not depending on the parents wealth.

How long is right for engagement before marriage ?

Before engagement is done, it means the marriage preparation is on the way. In that note, the period of 3-7month is enough to plan and fix marriage in place. In our society now, challenges may come from the family or church, even from friends, yet this duration is enough to solve problem and come out victorious.

Are there things that can change someone's mind after engagement ?

Yes, things like

• Genotype and HIV status

• Secret been reveal

• Cheating

• lies

• Family not accepting the other because of the family history, health challenges or individual behavior.

The above mention things can hinder some one's mine to change after engagement.

Is engagement a guarantee for marriage

Engagement is not a guarantee for marriage and it will never be. Engagement is just like camouflage because it can disappear or vanish with a mere mistake cause by the two lovers. It it only when the marriage is done illegally, from there you know that the engagement that was gone is seal, but remember a saying says A broken relationship is better than a broken marriage. Is better you have a regret and cancel the engagement than regretting getting married to your spouse.
