Our Culture and Tradition Roundtable|| week 08
Beloved steemians in the community, I welcome you all to another week of roundtable discussion that deals with how we use different items in our culture or tradition.
As long as we living, a time comes in our lives when our culture places some demands from us. In fulfilling these demands, we sought after some important items that could be used for it. Hence today, I come with a very popular fruit that is affordable and is at the reach of everyone, and that is the GARDEN EGG.
As usual, let me take out time to recognize all the ethnic nationalities present in this community, as I present the kola for today's meeting follows:
The Igbos
The Ibibios
The Efiks
The Yorubas
The Hausas
The Ijaws
The fulanis
The Tivis
The kanuris
I don't forget other ethnic nationalities that I could not mention but are existing in this community. My greetings to all of you and welcome.

Pleas: if the name is not correctly spelt or the name is not mentioned in your native language, do correct it or you mention the name in the reply so that we can learn from you too.
During cultural events in Igbo land, the garden egg is almost an indispensable type of kola that is expected to be presented. Excuses are not entertained when garden egg is not present at cultural events. It is used to welcome visitors either at home or during events that attracts a lot of people.
When there is a traditional event in the community, the garden egg is presented alongside other kola to augment insufficiency and then gives the people more options to select the type of kola they want.
The events which garden egg is required includes:
The traditional marriage ceremony
Age grade meetings
Coronations of kings and title chiefs
Burial ceremony
New yam festival
Naming ceremony
Garden egg symbolizes fruitfulness and is an essential fruit kola in the Igbo culture. It is affordable and at the reach of everyone who needs it for any kind of occasion. It could be bought from the market or get it from your garden if you have it.
It is also worthy to note that women do not present garden egg to visitors and as such, even if is only a day old male child is available, they should give to him to present to the visitors.
Beyond cultural usage, garden egg has a lot of health benefiting minerals in it. Don't just wait to eat during events, go out there to get it and eat at your own time.
