What is alligator pepper used in your culture or tradition?

Steemians, let's rally round here for today's roundtable meeting. As usual, we have an item that has an important attachment to our culture or tradition and guess what? Alligator pepper is on the table for us today. The alligator pepper comes either dry or wet. The dried alligator pepper is often preferred over the wet one during events.

Before I go on, I would like to make something here very clear and it has to do with the various items I present here that we use in our various cultures or traditions. Right from the beginning of this roundtable culture and traditions meeting, I have been presenting some items. These items represent the various types of kola that could be used during cultures or traditional ceremonies. The point I want to drive home here is that, there are various type items that could be used to represent the kola. So kola is the umbrella or family name of any of the items that could be used to welcome a stranger or when performing culture or traditional events.

Now the meeting starts! I therefore present this kola to all the tribes in this community for onward presentation their people as follows:

The Hausas
The Igbos
The Yorubas
The Ibibios
The fulanis
The Tivs
The kanuris
The Efiks
The Ijaws

and other tribes too numerous to mention, that I could not reach out to. My greetings to all of you!

The usefulness of alligator pepper in my culture, the IGBO

In my tribe theIgbo, the alligator pepper is presented to the guests first before serving food or entertaining the people. It is combined with kola nuts and other related kola and eaten together. After the prayers are said, it would then be shared to the guests.

During our cultural or traditional events , the alligator pepper as has been said, are not presented alone, they are presented together with other kola. The events where we make use of alligator pepper include the following:

• Traditional Marriage Ceremony
• Burial ceremony
• New yam festival
• Naming ceremony
• During coronation or title conferment
• It is also useful in the traditional medicines
