Construction of a new international airport begins in my community
When it comes to growth and development in the society, then puting infrastructures in place would be in focus. One of such infrastructures that aids in accelerating growth and development in the society is, having an airport to complement other existing means of transportation.
Having an airport in a commercial city or close to it, would attract international investors who would contribute to economic growth. International investors finds it attractive to have a fast means of transportation that would help them to make on-the spot assessment of their investment. This is especially when they want to acquire tangible assets to do their business. This would be a laudable project when it is completed.
Flagging off the airport construction in my community
This week, precisely on Tuesday 18 December 2024, a groundbreaking ceremony took place in Nsulu, Isialangwa north LAG here in Abia state, to begin the construction of an airport in the state.
Abia is one of the states in the south eastern part of Nigeria. The state has over 6 million people having Aba as its commercial nerve center. The huge commercial activities going on in the city of Aba, has put the state in the map of fast economic developing states which has necessitated the construction of the airport near the city in the state.
The project attracts the federal ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development which is the ministry saddled with the responsibilty of overseeing the activities of the Nigeria airways. The Honorable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, was on ground to perform the groundbreaking alongside with the state govervnor.

Having an international airport located close to the commercial city of Aba, is a project well thought for. The city of Aba generates about 90% of the state's internal revenue as it has the influx business patronage from other African countries and even beyond the continent. This project when completed, would add more weight to other infrastructure base of the state.
Hence, the benefits that the airport would have includes but not limited to the following:
It would create more employment opportunity for the teaming unemployed youths
International investors would no longer incure more airfare cost.
Investors would no longer have to go through other air routes in other locations just to come to the state for business or other engagements. Their air fare cost would totaly reduce as they would have to board their flight direct to the state. It would put the state in the map of fast developing states
It would add to the revenue base of the state as money would flow into the state from the air fares.
It would acelerate the movement of goods and services in and outside the state.
It would attract foreign and local investors into the state.
Foreign and indigenous companies would have more economies of scale as they would now be able to get more customers by reaching them directly through air travel..
Finally, having an international airport in the state is really a welcome development. The state especially the city of Aba, would begin to have more business patronage from African countries reching to rest part of the world.
I am glad that this project is located in my community and it is expected to be completed in within 36 months.
