Good afternoon steemians, its my pleasure to write on this platform about my country. I hope you all are having a great day. Thank you for giving your time to read my post, I appreciate.

It's my country's Independence Day celebration.
We all know what it means to be a enslave in your own land. But along the line, people stood up and fought for our freedom. We call them our Heroes, and acknowledge them for standing strong to give us freedom.

It was on 1st October, 1960, it was a historical moment in Nigeria.

A song was composed in remembrance to this day

On 1st October, 1960
Nigeria had independence
Oh freedom, oh freedom, oh freedom
Freedom everywhere

Freedom is essential, that was given back to us on this great day.

This takes us back to how our country was and how it is going on till today it turn 69 years.
Nigeria is a west African country, one of the populous African continent, of course that why it is nickname the Giant of Africa.

About my Country

Nigeria is a blessed Country with good and talented citizens. I would say that Nigeria is country bless with natural resources not natural disasters.

Nigeria is a west African country, rich in culture and natural resources, The people of Nigeria are vibrate, hardworking and cheerful. . It is said to be the most populous African country, it is made up of 36 states and it capital located in Abuja.

The first Capital of Nigeria was in calabar, later it was move to Lagos and currently Abuja. Nigeria is famous for it rich culture and traditions. It has over 250 languages.

Nigeria is embedded with different culture which has their difference in their;

  • Language
  • Dressing
  • Festivals
  • Ways of greetings
  • Region
  • Belief
  • Names
  • Food
  • Religion

Nigeria is a country that practice different religion,

These religions are

  • Christian religion
  • Islamic religion
  • Traditional religion

Christians worship in a place or building called Church. They are followers of Jesus Christ. Christians go on pilgrimage to Jerusalem (the holy land)

The materials use by christians are

  • Holy Bible
  • Hymn book
  • Rosary

The Islamic religion is a religion that was introduced by Prophet Muhammad.The Islamic followers are called Muslims. The Muslims go on pilgrimage to Mecca. The Islamic followers worship in a place called mosque.

The materials used by Muslims are

  • Holy Quaran

  • Islamic rosary etc

States and capital

Nigeria has 36 states and capital and the federal capital is located at Abuja (Center of Excellence). The first capital of Nigeria was in Calabar which was later moved to Lagos state and currently is is located in Abuja.The first local government in Nigeria was Ikot Ekpene local government Area.

The major ethnic Group in Nigeria are

  • The Yorubas
  • The Hausa and
  • The Igbos

The Nigeria flag is Green white green which represents a country rich in natural resources, peaceful and bless in Agricultural.

Nigeria is bless with great men and women, who through their braveness, intellect made Nigeria gain its fame in the world at large.
They are known to be our past hero who fought and brought Nigeria or their community to a limelight.

Our past heroes and heroine

  • Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe

  • Chief Obafemi Awolowo

  • Herbert Marculey

  • Ahmadu Bello

And also our past heroine

  • Queen Amina of Zaria

  • Madam Udo Udoma of Ikot Abasi who
    fought in the Ikot Abasi women riot

  • Fumilayo Ransome Kuti

There are so numerous to mention.

Nigeria is a country that was colonial by a superior power (The British). Colonization is the act of another country having a sovereign power over a particular territory or region. That why the official language of Nigeria is English.

Yes Nigeria is our country, we can not deny that fact, let us pray that our country will be better than how our past hero left behind.Nigerians will live in one accord devoid of prejudice, war, hunger and electoral violence.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
