My Neighborhood Watch #74 - Reporting Events Around us
Unfortunately, I'm compelled to share a distressing event that occurred in my neighborhood. On November 11th at approximately 9 pm, a tragic incident unfolded just outside my residence. I've attached a video documenting the incident for reference. I'm deeply shaken to have witnessed such a distressing and unforeseen event, a first-of-its-kind experience for me. The unexpected incident has left me saddened and concerned. My report below....
As I left my friend's house around 9 pm, I stumbled upon a disturbing scene on my way home. A crowd had gathered on the tarred road, with some people capturing the moment on their phones, others shining torches, and several women lamenting and sobbing. Curiosity got the better of me, and I edged closer to investigate. What I saw left me stunned and speechless.
I was horrified when I caught sight of the victim's right leg, his leg was severely injured, with the bone visible outside the skin. Goosebumps spread across my skin as I struggled to comprehend the severity of the impact. What made this incident even more heart-wrenching was that the driver responsible for the hit-and-run had fled the scene upon realizing the victim was mentally unstable. The poor man was left to endure the agony of his broken bone, alone and abandoned.
Minutes after the accident, with no one to rush him to the hospital, the victim's leg began to swell alarmingly. His pain intensified, and he burst into tears. Witnessing his distress, I felt a surge of compassion. I desperately wished I had the means to take him to the hospital, fearing that without timely medical attention, his condition might deteriorate fatally. The fact that no one was willing to help a vulnerable, mentally unstable individual only added to my distress.
Despite our efforts to communicate, the victim remained silent, unable to provide information about his identity, family, or contacts. He struggled to stand, but his injuries made it impossible. A haunting question lingered: Who would take responsibility for this vulnerable individual's medical care? In a struggling economy like Nigeria's, where survival is a daily challenge, the likelihood of someone volunteering to cover his hospital bills and provide ongoing support seemed bleak.
Amidst the chaos, a compassionate woman provided a cloth to tied his bone. A young man carefully tied the victim's broken bone to his skin, offering temporary relief from his suffering. I couldn't bear to leave him in that state, feeling both concern and gratitude for my own life. It was a poignant reminder of societal contrasts: had it been the victim was a productive member of society, people would have rushed to his aid, expecting his family to reciprocate. But for a mentally unstable individual, sympathy was scarce.
As the night wore on, approaching 10 pm, I decided to err on the side of caution and hailed an okada (motorcycle taxi) to ensure a safe and swift ride home, avoiding potential encounters with vigilantes. That concludes my eyewitness account of the unfortunate incident in my neighborhood.
I would like to invite @goodybest @damithudaya @bossj23 to report events happening around their neighbourhood

This is a very heartbreaking incident. It is really difficult to witness such a sad situation. We wish this young man a speedy recovery and hope that he receives the proper treatment. It is our duty to empathize and care for the neglected members of the society. We all pray for him on behalf of Steemit.🙏🙏
I just pray a good Samaritan visits him, else he'll not survive. Thank you for dropping comments about this.
Do people still drive recklessly, on a Sunday when I was returning I saw an incident like this but no blood was involved the only thing was that due to shock experienced the lady on the bike became unconscious, I so thank God that the child she was with never sustained any injury, a yahoo boy drove recklessly. Now this particular one is so severe, this is how people become handicapped, I feel pity for that man for losing his leg, one mistake people make is to stand for a long time to watch this without doing nothing, do they want this man to bleed to death. Anytime you see cases like this tell them to rush the victim to the hospital as soon as possible.
Things are really happening in our society. Not as if people wouldn't have taken him to the hospital for proper treatment, the thing is, the victim here is a mad man. No one is willing to offer help, without being paid back, I don't know if uou understand what I'm trying to say here. It's just sad, I'm not sure he'll survive it.
Hmm, I wonder if he could feel pain at all

The story you have shared with us is so painful and sad. I hope he finally got to the hospital because tying up the legs is not the cure.
