It's my pleasure to participate in this new week steemit engagement challenge season 12 week 3 organised in this community, it's the responsibility of every government to protect and safe the life of their citizens and guarantee them maximum support particularly when the citizens need them most.

In your own words what do you understand by the word security

Many scholars define security within their different contexts because the term are used differently in the academics area of study.

Security is the protection of people life and property against any physical harm or dangers that may occur. Security is also the process where people within their environments must be free and safe from already established law enforcement agency that have been put in place.

Security of life and property is one of the major things we must have in mind to protect our self against any criminal activities in our environment. Freedom of moving from one place to another without being afraid is the kind of security that members of the public want from the government.

In your country, in what ways has the government been able to keep the citizens safe?

Insecurity is the biggest challenges in Nigeria ranging from Fulanis herdsmen, Bokoharam and Banditry, Nigeria government are working tirelessly to provide maximum security to the citizens because citizens elect them to cater for their welfare.

Government of Nigeria depends on military power to fight against insurgency or external enemy that may enter their territory. Past president spent like millions of Naira to purchased sophisticated equipments to fight insurgency like Bokoharam in the north east. The issue of Bokoharam have been reduce drastically.

State Government in the south west also employed local vigilante known as Amotekun, they gave them new guns, brand new vehicle to fight against kidnappers, arm robbers and others social vices.

Moreover, their is punishment for people who violent the law of the country, government take this thing seriously because life of the citizens is very important for the society development. Government also engage youths to participate in vocational training because unemployment rates increase everyday in the country and many of them do not have source of income, if adequate measures is not put in place terrorist may use them to disrupt peace of the country.

Personally, what do you do for yourself or your family to be safe in your town or country?

God is the best protector, humans just do their own best to be at safer side, I personally don't like to stay much longer in the outside especially during the nights when 8:00pm rang I will just walk in to my house because most of the evil act such as kidnapping, robbery, murder and others type of illicit act are usually carried out at late hours.

After I enter my house I will switch on the security light to be able to see everywhere and safe. I don't allows visitors at late hours because it may be danger or threat to my family safety, except if my parents or close relative want to see me on the urgent issue that may need my attention. We must be security conscious the way kidnappers demand ransom of money is something that's serious, victim will be killed if the family does not respond in time.

Have you experienced or heard of any case of insecurity (robbery or kidnap)? What happened?

This happened to one of my sister in my community, the Fulanis' herdsmen kidnapped her when she was about to closed her shop for the day. Although the place is a new residential area, their is two shops beside her shop they had locked up and the rest is bush.

They kidnapped her and spent like 2 to 3 days in their captivity, the kidnappers call her family and demanded 4million naira ransom to be paid immediately which is about 19,500 steem. The family paid the money and she was released, she narrated that the kidnappers feed her half bread and water through out her stayed with them and nothing more. The family took her to the hospital to receive adequate healthcare on the damages.

What do you think is the best way to keep a home secure?

• We should install CCTV camera in our house (both indoor and outdoor) in order to see free movement of people that are passing by. CCTV camera is the best because it will records all the activities perform by strangers.

• The house owners must lock doors and windows whenever he or she is going to the market, office, visit our friends house etc. So that intruder or thieves will not have full access to the house.

• We must know how to hide our valuable items such as money, document and passport. Keeping them safe and secure where nobody can be aware or notice.

• We should also Install solar light in our garden, evil people use darkness to perform their operation, even if the government light went off, solar system can allows everywhere to be free from dangers.

Conclusion

Government should continues to protect life and property of the citizens because we trust them to governs us and must of the citizens depends on them for their safety. I will like to invite @piya3, @malikusman1, @steemdoctor1 and @cryptoloover to participate.
