Steem4nigeria Accelerator contest week21:The power of forgiveness

in Steem4Nigeria8 months ago (edited)

In a world full of sins and where we tend to offend each other or do things that can make one angry at another, forgiveness is the only response we can give each other,by letting go of everything and keep friendship and all sorts of relationships.
My write up on this contest about forgiveness sheds light on all about forgiveness, take your time, sit back and go through it and hopefully you enjoy it and learn one or two.

What do you understand by the world forgiveness

Forgiveness to me,is the act of letting go and forgetting any wrong doing someone has ever done to hurt you or made you feel bad.Sometimes,to forgive someone is of the hardest things to do but still one has to forgive to find inner peace and not t carry a heavy heart around.Forgiveness is being taught everywhere,in school, place of worship and the likes.

Why do you think forgiveness is important in maintaining healthy relationships ?

There is a saying that goes “to err is to human and to forgiven is divine”.Forgiveness is something that we have to master up and make our habit because we humans are imperfect and we tend to make mistakes or do things that affect others or they may not necessarily like.

It is in our best to ask for forgiveness when we do things that can make others angry and also to forgive when someone asks for our forgiveness, true love must learn forgiveness. The importance of forgiveness in any relationship can’t be undermined because if we refuse to forgive everyone we won’t have any friends anymore, this reminds me of a Yoruba proverb that says”if we don’t forget yesterday’s fight,we won’t have anyone to walk with today”.

”Have you ever faced challenges in forgiving someone? How did you overcome them?

Yes and I’m sure almost everyone has,as humans, our emotions isn’t stable and it tends to change most times, anger is one of the thing that can make us not to want to forgive someone. When we are angry,we tend not to listen to what anyone says or hear anything.our anger blinds us from forgiving and makes it hard to forgive.
I faced challenges forgiving a friend of mine because he made a statement about my father that actually hurt a lot and I vowed not to ever speak to him nor forgive him,we had such a huge blow out where our other friends had to intervene,it took me such along time to let go just because of how much damage the words did to me but I tried by calming my self and listening to word of God.

Can you share a personal experience where forgiveness played a significant role in your life or the life of someone you know ?

This story is such a personal one because it’s between my mum and I.For a long time I have had a huge resentment towards her due to the fact that I always thought she hated me or didn’t like me as much as she did to my siblings.I always felt belittled because I felt she likes my siblings more than I,we always tend to fight about everything.

There was a day when she called me and we had a heart felt conversation where we talked about everything and we cleared things out.i cried so much because of the resentment I have held in my heart for so long but I was glad that I was able to let go of everything.

What do you make of the statement “love and forgiveness are twins that cannot be separated “how true is that ?

The statement is very much true, because true love has to love forgiveness, true love is forgiving. As I said earlier, humans are not perfect ,so we tend to anger each other,we must learn to forgive each other wrong doing and over look certain things that people may do to anger us just for the sake of love and also to let peace reign. Both the holy Quran and bible teaches us to forgive because our God is a forgiving God who loves to forgive,so if God can forgive us of any wrong doings why can’t we also forgive our fellow humans?

In conclusionforgiveness is a moral attitude that we must make an habit, learn to forgive and forget and let things go.

Thank you
I will be sure to do so

To err is really human and forgiveness divine like you said it’s good to really ask for forgiveness when we offend other but most people do not have that humility to ask even when they k ow they wronged you. Forgiveness is really needed to foster great relationships. Thank you for the elaborate point you made here. Wishing you luck in the contest.
