Importance of acquiring skills to reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria

Acquired skills are those talents and expertise that is obtained by education or gained experience. They can include communication skills, technical skills, handicrafts etc.
Acquired skills are different from natural or inborn skills, in acquired skill, an individual must go through education or training. Acquired skill can also be gained through experience.

Examples of acquired skill include:

• Catering
• Tailoring
• Hair dressing
• Fashion designing
• Computer literacy
• Carpentry
• Plumbing, etc

To survive in Nigeria one must have a skill that he has acquired and is using to feed himself. There is a high level of unemployment and therefore an acquired skill goes a long way.
The few people who have jobs are not being paid good salary and some their salary is even paid late or never. Being self employed is the best thing for us in Nigeria since we will not need to depend on anyone to pay us for our work rather we will be the boss of our own and working for you our own money.

Importance of skill acquisition

Acquiring a skill is important for us. It helps us in many ways, it helps to improve the way we think and even solve problems.
Some importance of skill acquisition include:

• Earning a good living through self employment
• Making own decisions
• Creating more job opportunities
• Having a good self confidence
• Less reliance in government

Those are just some of he importance of acquiring a skill. It is so important especially for youths.
Today in Nigeria, it is true that many youths who graduate from school has gone back to acquiring some skills to help themselves due to lack of employment in the country. The certificates they have do not provide employment for them so they end up feeding themselves with he little skill they acquire.

Well, unemployment is a sad reality in Nigeria and there's no much we can do about it, however we can help develop ourselves by acquiring skills and being self employed.

Nothing is too disgraceful to do, people who do plumbing also play a very important role in the country even though this work is viewed with a very low regard. But without them there won't be good toilets and we will all end up using the bush 😀.

Currently I'm also acquiring catering skill which includes making meals, cakes, decorations, fashion etc. I believe with this skill I can be able to achieve self confidence and self employment. I believe I'm doing the right thing.
