Workplace5: What steps are you taking to improve your workplace? Or what would you advise those who want to improve?
Hello everyone and I greet you all, welcome to my entry for this great contest by @alexmove, which he captioned “workplace”. It's indeed with great pleasure that I participate in this amazing contest.
In this contest, I will be discussing with you my workplace and the steps I'm taking to improve the workplace or advice I would give to those who want to improve it. So without further ado, shall we?
What is a Workplace? |
---|
A workplace is a place where a person carries out work, for employers or their self. Hence, It is a place of employment. A workplace can be a home office (for the workplace from home persons) to a large office building or factory. The workplace is considered one of the most important places other than the home as it is where we make ends meet.
My workplace |
---|
Currently, I am carrying out a national duty of serving my Country through a program known as the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), It is a 1-year compulsory program for all Nigerian graduates before they are allowed to move into the labour market fully.
In the course of my national civic duty, being a graduate of Pure and Applied Chemistry, I was deployed to an education facility to educate kids, so basically, my workplace right now is a school. Oh yes! I tutor kids in the field of Pre-vocational studies (PVS).
Pre-vocational studies (PVS) was initially the integration of Agricultural Science and Home Economics, but recently added Computer studies into the fold. It is designed for Junior Secondary students from Jss 1-3 (I.e. Basic 7-9) in Nigeria schools.
Pre-vocational Studies (PVS) is all about teaching children discipline about practical and research-oriented skills and therefore, it emphasizes hands-on experimental work in well-equipped laboratories and farms.
Enough about my work, we are talking about my workplace here, know that I work in a school known as Nung Oku Itina Community Secondary School, Ikot Mbong, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The is quite a big one, but with its size comes its troubles too.
It is located practically in the landmark between two communities, surrounded by bushes but good roads, thus, making movements to the place difficult. The school itself lacks a lot of facilities such as a laboratory, ICT center, library, quality study materials, adequate security, good classrooms, etc.
What Steps Are You Taking To Improve Your Workplace |
---|
There is practically little to nothing I can do to improve my workplace as it is a property of the state government, all I can do and I am doing is try my best to carry out my work as effectively as I can.
To do that, I tried to mitigate the effect of the missing library by buying the textbook needed to carry out my tutorials from my pocket, supplementing the missing ICT center, I've brought my laptop to school to teach them the aspect of computer studies and also allow them to watch tutorial videos on YouTube when I am buoyant in data.
If I can't improve the conditions of the buildings, library, or security, I can at least improve the learning aspect of the children willing to learn, and that's my joy.
Remarkable workplaces exist through the day-to-day connections that workers experience and not a list of agendas and benefits or structures.
what would you advise those who want to improve? |

My advice to those in authority who can improve it (the government), is simple, if you carry the future of this coming generation at heart, then you should know the education system is dropping and losing its value. Kids are no longer excited to go to school as not even their basic needs for school are met.
My current workplace like every other school needs a functioning library, laboratory, ICT center, good classrooms, adequate personnel and security, and a conducive environment to learn. These are all you need to improve on for the sake of our future leaders.
Remember there is a saying that says; "Readers are Leaders", yet there is no library to improve the culture of reading among kids. So please, anyone in authority who can improve this for us should please come through for us.
NOTE: Always have a smile on your face, as you are never fully dressed without one.
Thank you, friend!

The weight is reduced because of the lack of Voting Power. If you vote for me as a witness, you can get my little vote.
I can understand that feeling.
In this kind of workplace, you are handicapped in helping out seriously.
Secondly, you will soon be done with your Program there, so when you leave everything will go back to status quo.
Nice entry.
Best regards
I really love you work which deals on impacting knowledge and wisdom to our upcoming generation. Keep it up I wish you success
Kids requirements are not fulfilled. This is so truly said . Nigeria and our country requires to think over educational system. It is literally depleting our youth generation after generation. Only those who can afford Majorly who can afford.
It is really good to see you teaching small kids and shaping them.
