RE: Über Minimalismus | On minimalism

in Deutsch Unplugged3 years ago

I've always had the feeling that there is something hypocritical and snobbish about the word Minimalism and everything that goes into it (although to be honest I've never fully understood it). And now I understand where this feeling comes from, because "a minimalist lifestyle is only possible in an affluent society". I.e. only rich people can afford the luxury of depriving themselves of luxury, while poor people constantly live in unconscious and unwanted minimalism. I don't like pretentiousness and such artificial things, although when it comes to art, everything is allowed there. Anyone can come up with concepts, come up with different trends and 'new' ideas, only to then call themselves and their art genius or unique...

Thanks for reading!

only rich people can afford the luxury of depriving themselves of luxury

That is my opinion or perspective on the (metaphorical) minimalism concerning lifestyle.

Don't worry about the arts. Minimalism in the arts is much older than the snobbish minimalistic lifestyle, and it's not snobbish THERE at all. It's been a rebellion and/or a renewing: diminishing means while increasing (or at least not decreasing) ends. In so far, it is NOT

only to then call themselves and their art genius or unique

;-)

PS

A real genius would destroy his or her minimalism at the same moment she/he practices it.
