I read this post last night on my phone but you know I am too lazy to type on phone's keypad so I kept it in pending but when I was reading it your post reminded me of transport services in Australia.

Authorities are making parking charges costly and weekend fares almost free. I remember I used to visit every weekend by train/bus/ferry and light rail for the whole day just for AU$2.5 which would otherwise cost me over $150. Yet there were too few passengers that used public transport.

I am glad you're already thinking in the right direction to make things right.
