Corona just revealed the suicidal tendencies of pandemic capitalism: Noam Chomsky

Despite being the richest, most powerful country in the world, why did the United States fail to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus? This failure is in any field - political leadership, or (state) institutional management? In the midst of this Covid-19 crisis, the reality is that Donald Trump's popularity soared in March. How do you think this incident will affect the US election?

 ★Noam Chomsky: 

To understand this, it would be appropriate to go back a little and look at the source of this pandemic. This is not an unexpected event. Ever since the SARS epidemic in 2003, scientists have been speculating about another viral pandemic of the same virus.But knowing is not enough. Someone has to do something about it. Pharmaceutical companies have no interest in this. They follow the direction of the market. And the profit comes from another place. The government could have taken responsibility, but the ideology of neo-liberalism has blocked that path.

Trump has worsened the situation by continuously reducing funding for the Centers for Disease Control, and shutting down all government activities capable of giving advance warning. For all these reasons, the United States was in a very unprepared state.

In the wake of this, a few countries immediately became aware (Kovid-19's) infection and brought it under control. On the other hand, Trump did not listen to the regular warnings of US intelligence and health officials. He insisted that it was the flu, and that it would go away. When he finally arrived in March and looked at it, it was too late.Hundreds of thousands of Americans have already died and the pandemic is out of control.

Thus the United States suffered a three-pronged blow: capitalist logic, or neo-liberal brutality, and a government indifferent to the masses.

If the head of state takes a stand on any issue, there are some supporters. But in the case of Trump, that possibility quickly faded. His chances of being elected in another round for incompetent and criminal activities are very slim. But much more could happen before the month of November arrives.
