Mary Celeste: The unsolved mystery of an unmanned ship
December 5, 182; The British Brigantine ship Dei Gratia was about 400 miles east of the Azores. At that moment, the sailors noticed something strange. The ship named Mary Celeste left the port of New York about eight days before her ship (Dei Gratia) for Genoa, Italy. Mary Celeste is supposed to arrive in the Italian port in so many days! Upon arriving, Captain David Morehouse sent a rescue boat without receiving any response from Mary Celest. The captain had no doubt that the ship was in danger. But when he found out the real reason, everyone on the ship, including him, was shocked. Mary Celeste is floating without any kind of driver! There is no sign of any kind of attack, epidemic, accident on the ship. Only people seem to have disappeared into the air.
Neither of the ships was found, nor was any sailor or captain found. Most of the things on the ship are in perfect condition. As far as inconsistencies are concerned, there is no way to understand what actually happened to the ship's sailor, the captain, and his entire family. The front and rear hatches of Mary Celest's deck were found open. Ship chronometers, sextants,Necessary papers like navigation books and ship register books have vanished into thin air like passengers. But the ship's logbook was found on the sailors' cabin desk. It was written there for the last time on November 25 at 8 am, that is, ten days before the rescue of the empty ship. At the time, the ship was stationed at a 6-mile northeast corner of Santamaria.
De Gratier's rescue crew found something more confusing than finding the whole ship well. With the amount of supplies and beverages in the food warehouse, almost 6 months of food for the ship should be easily available. There are signs of people living in the cabins where sailors and cooks live. The scene in the captain's cabin is the same.
There are no signs of scuffles or attacks anywhere. The cabinets are in order, the clothes are in order, and everything is in good condition. The captain's house was found with his and his wife's clothes, baby toys and a sword in a shell under the bed. There is no sign of anyone leaving the ship without any preparation.
There was only one lifeboat on the ship, but that lifeboat was nowhere to be found. One of the two pumps in Mary Celeste to drain the water that had accumulated in the ship's hull was found to be later on the deck in the open. For the past ten days, rescuers have seen about three-and-a-half feet of water inside Mary Celeste's shell, whether for floating without a controller or for some other reason.
