At-Tabari in Historiography: A Knowledge Tapas in Black

in ActnEarn4 years ago

Tabaristan is a hill district in Persia on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari was born in 639 AD (225 AH) in a place called Anmul in this district. He is originally known as At-Tabari. It is known that before his birth, his father dreamed of having a child, who would be the greatest bearer of the law and hadith science of the Prophet (peace be upon him). In fact, it was for this reason that his father favored him.
It is known that At-Tabari memorized the Qur'an at the age of seven and mastered Hadith at the age of nine.

He left his birthplace to pursue knowledge and first came to Ra'i. Here he learned one lakh hadiths from Muhammad bin Humaid, one of his famous teachers. He then studied periodically in Baghdad and Basra. From Basra he moved to Kufa. Here he studied one lakh more hadiths from the renowned hadith scholar Sheikh Abu Qurai. He left Kufa for Baghdad.

Here he concentrated on the study of the Qur'an and jurisprudence. He continued to advance in the Western world to quench his deep thirst for knowledge. After staying in various Syrian cities and ports, he reached Fusta in Egypt. In Fusta, he came in contact with the famous hospitable saint Ali bin Saraj. This teacher highly praised At-Tabari's erudition in religious science and poetry. He finally settled in Baghdad after a trip to his hometown of Tabaristan.
