Sunday is 70 years of Doordarshan. Doordarshan was launched in 1959. The beginning of the golden age of Indian television is in his hands.

Doordarshan began with the idea of holding the whole family together - be it news or evening shows, regional entertainment or national programs or sports.

Doordarshan logo

The Doordarshan logo is a symbol of the human eye. Doordarshan has been associated with the brand's nostalgia. Earlier, at the beginning of the year, Doordarshan started the process of changing their logo. Doordarshan runs a total of 23 channels across the country. Logo competitions have been organized through them. The winner will be given a prize of Rs 1 lakh.

This step is to modernize and streamline the network.

The start is not so big

In 1959, Doordarshan started working with a small transmitter and a temporary studio in the studio of All India Radio. Six years later, in 1985, Pratima Puri read the first five minutes of the news on Doordarshan. He also interviewed Yuri Gagarin.

Until then, All India Radio was in charge of daily broadcasting.

On 15 August 1972, Doordarshan broadcast national telecast from their own studio in New Delhi called DD1. In the same year, the audience witnessed the live broadcast of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's speech on Independence Day. This was followed by a colorful broadcast of the Asian Games held in Delhi.

Many of the shows aired on Doordarshan have turned into classics. Shows like Tu Tu Myan Myan, Mahabharata, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Uran, Fauji, Malgudi Days won the hearts of the people from the late 6's to the early 9's.Doordarshan produced Krishi Darshan, the longest running TV show on agriculture. It was first broadcast in 1986 and aired in 70 villages. The show was discontinued in 2014 after an agricultural television channel called Kisan TV was launched.

Institutional autonomy

In the 1990s, All India Radio and Doordarshan came under the direct control of the government. As the issue was discussed in Parliament, it was promised that institutional autonomy would remain intact, and a law was passed on that.
Before the Lok Sabha polls this year, the Election Commission raised questions about political coverage on Doordarshan. It was learned that BJP got the most airtime in DD News. Then there was the place of the Congress.

Today's television

Doordarshan has lagged behind in the era of massive boom in the TV industry. As a result of economic reforms and liberalization in information technology in 1991, many foreign and Indian media companies have entered the world of television.

Where there was only one licensed channel in 1991, that number now stands at more than 600. The first 24-hour news channel started in 1996, grew to 400 in 2014 and is still growing.

However, despite facing so many challenges, Doordarshan did not stop. Earlier this year, India signed an agreement with Bangladesh to show Doordarshan channel in that country. Apart from this, Prasar Bharati will also co-produce a feature film on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The film will be directed by Shyam Benegal. Apart from this, Prasar Bharati will also co-produce a documentary on the liberation war of Bangshad.

He is 60 years old, but Doordarshan has no plans to retire.
