INTRODUCTION

Today I would like to discuss a very very vital topic called first aid. It is important for every person on Earth to have a very good knowledge of first aid so that they can be a Savior to any emergency.

Before we go into the detailed points about why you need first aid, let's talk about the definition of first aid.

Practically, everybody can be a first aider given that the person has a definite knowledge of first aid. Well, that's the reason of this post, to give you a good knowledge of first aid. First aid however first aid is the first timely response given by a skilled individual to a person passing through health distress e.g road, home or industrial accidents, before the medical team arrives.

REASONS OF FIRST AID

Basically, the reason for first aid is to help preserve a dying person before the medical team or the ambulance arrives or before taking the person to the hospital for further care.. for example, if first aid care is not given to a person that is hit by a car, there is a high risk of that person dying from haemorrhage (leading to hypovolemic shock) and ultimately death, if proper first aid isn't given to that person.

1. As said earlier, first aid have an aim of saving and preserving life before the health team arrives

2. It helps to relieve an individual's pain before taken to the hospital

3. It helps in the prevention of illness or injury becoming worse and life threatening.

FIRST AID RULES

There are some certain rules that guides the practice of first aid, and these rules includes:

1. Reassure the person by appearing calm, well dressed, not looking tartered and also by the words of the mouth.

2. Remove the injured individual from the place whereby the injury happened

3. If the individual is unconscious, help them to lye on their right or left side

4. Never give an unconscious individual any drink

5. Immediately call medical aid before carrying out any procedure

6. Control bystanders and don't allow them to over excite the individual.

PROPERTIES OF A GOOD FIRST AIDER

If you want to be a good first aider, there are some properties one must posses, and these are:

1. A first aider must have common sense

2. Be able to improvise when necessary

3. Have a sense of leadership

4. Be able to empathize with any individual that needs emergency response

5. Have the knowledge of first aid (not to worry, I'll make posts about diseases and it's first aid measures)

6. Be confident enough to act

NB: "I know all" and "I don't need assistance from no body" is very dangerous when it comes to health. If you don't know how to carry out a procedure, please do well to refer to a better person.
