Hi Global Steem Members
Eid al-Fitr is the day most awaited by Muslims. Therefore, the holiday is always greeted with various traditions and events.
In Indonesia, each region has its tradition of welcoming Eid al-Fitr. As in Betawi land, the original inhabitants of the city of Jakarta have a tradition called Andilan (sharing). The tradition is to cut a buffalo before Eid al-Fitr. This tradition has been passed down by ancestors hundreds of years ago from generation to generation.

The word 'share' is a joint venture. Joint money or share is obtained from monthly or weekly contributions made during recitations or meetings. From the money collected, a buffalo was bought which was then well cared for until its body was fat and healthy by an assigned shepherd.

Two days before Eid, the buffalo will be slaughtered and the meat distributed to those who take part in the shared activities. Usually, the meat will be used in Eid dishes such as stews. While the shepherd will usually get the head or buffalo skin.

However, unfortunately, the handi tradition is now fading, even almost rare. Many factors that cause this tradition is no longer practiced by the Betawi people. One of them is that it is now difficult to find a field in the big city of Jakarta to herd buffalo.

Whereas the share tradition has a deep meaning for the Betawi people. First, as a form of gratitude to Allah SWT. Second, it can foster a sense of cooperation and togetherness among humans.
