How Langurs Find Food Every Day
Lutung, or Javanese langur, is a primate that lives in the tropical forests of Indonesia, especially in Java and Bali.
To search for daily food, langurs have very specific eating habits and are adapted to their living environment.
They are herbivores that primarily consume leaves, fruit, flowers, and seeds. Young leaves and fresh fruit are their main favorites, but they also eat flowers and other plant parts if primary food is difficult to find.
Langurs often move in small groups, and within these groups they have a social hierarchy that determines who gets food first. Foraging is usually done in the morning and evening, when the air temperature is cooler and food is easier to find.
They use their tails and hands to climb trees and reach food in high branches. Apart from looking for food, langurs also guard their territory and communicate with group members using various sounds and signs.
With this diet and social behavior, langurs can survive and maintain the balance of the forest ecosystem where they live.
