Toads

Toads, or in other words "frogs", are a type of amphibian found throughout the world except in Antarctica. They are known for their soft skin and the mucous fluid that coats their bodies as protection against desiccation. Frogs have distinctive characteristics such as protruding eyes and an oval body equipped with four strong legs for jumping.

Toads live in a variety of freshwater habitats such as ponds, rivers and swamps. They have a unique life cycle, starting from eggs that hatch into tadpoles, which then develop into adult frogs after undergoing metamorphosis. This process involved significant physical changes, including the loss of the tail and the growth of hind legs to adapt to land life.

Ecologically, toads play an important role in the food chain as predators of small insects as well as being prey for various predators such as birds and mammals. Some species of toad also have the ability to make distinctive sounds, which are used to attract mates during the mating season.

Although some toad species face threats such as habitat loss and water pollution, conservation efforts have been made to maintain their populations. The study of toads is also important in understanding the health of freshwater ecosystems, as they can act as environmental health indicators that are sensitive to environmental change.
