Сьогодні я продовжу. Серію дописів про серію книжок Джонатана Страуда «Локвуд і Ко».

У першому дописі я вже розповідала, як саме побудовано світ серії, тобто про те, що на землі почали зʼявлятися привиди померлих, і ведуть вони себе, скажімо прямо, поганенько - дотик є смертельним, та ще й перелякають насмерть. Дорослі їх не бачать і не чують, тільки відчувають себе незатишно, тому з ними бʼються діти та підлітки.

Отже ми зупинилися на тому, що Люсі приходить на співбесіду до агенції «Локвуд і Ко», де їй, на відміну від інших агенцій, відчиняють двері. Скоро вже комендантська година, і їй немає куди йти.

Виявляється, що також на відміну від інших агенцій у цій немає дорослих, нею керує підліток на імʼя Ентоні Локвуд, і окрім керівника у них лише ще один співробітник - Джордж. Люсі спочатку дуже здивувалася, але все ж таки вирішила пройти співбесіду, за результатами якої її запросили працювати в агенції. На співбесіді її попросили торкнутися декількох предметів і розповісти, що саме вона відчуває бо чує.

Тут варто зробити іще одне пояснення. Здатність дитини або підлітка встановлювати контакт з потойбічними гостями називається Талантом, і у кожного він свій. Взагалі-то їх три: дотик, слух та зір. Якись може бути розвинений гірше, якись краще, наприклад у самого Локвуда головний талант це зір. У Люсі ж це слух, тому на співбесіді вона здебільшого розповідає про те, що вона чує, торкаючись предметів, повʼязаних з потойбічним світом.

Тут треба зробити іще одне невеличке пояснення. У цьому світі вважається, що привид завжди привʼязаний до якогось предмета - Джерела. Знищення такого предмета відсилає привида назад у потойбічний світ, тому виходячи на полювання агенти завжди у першу чергу шукають саме джерело, і саме не потужні джерела хлопці запропонували Люсі прокоментувати на співбесіді.

Зрештою Люсі стає новим співробітником агенції і пригоди починаються.

Як можна одразу здогадатися, кожна з пʼяти книг розповідає про якусь пригоду з привидами, але є мотив, що повʼязує їх усі разом. Згідно о міфології світу ніхто не знає, як і чому почалася навала привидів, проте всі, хто займається проблемою намагаються це зʼясувати. Так само і з агенцією «Локвуд і Ко», і з кожною книгою вони підбираються ближче і ближче безпосередньо до цієї інформації. Я не буду зараз писати спойлерів з останньої книги, але фінал мене вразив, всю дорогу я б навіть не подумала, як воно є насправді.

Today I will continue. A series of posts about Jonathan Stroud's Lockwood & Co. book series.

In the first post, I already told how exactly the world of the series is built, that is, about the fact that the ghosts of the dead began to appear on earth, and they behave, let's put it bluntly, badly - a touch is deadly, and also scares them to death. Adults do not see or hear them, they only feel uncomfortable, so children and teenagers fight with them.

So we stopped at the fact that Lucy comes to the interview at the Lockwood and Co. agency, where, unlike other agencies, the door is opened to her. It's almost curfew and she has nowhere to go.

It turns out that, unlike other agencies, there are no adults in this one, it is run by a teenager named Anthony Lockwood, and besides the manager, they have only one other employee - George. Lucy was very surprised at first, but still decided to go for an interview, as a result of which she was invited to work at the agency. At the interview, she was asked to touch several objects and tell what exactly she feels or hears.

Here it is worth making one more explanation. The ability of a child or teenager to make contact with otherworldly guests is called a Talent, and everyone has it. In general, there are three of them: touch, hearing and sight. Some can be developed worse, some better, for example, Lockwood himself's main talent is vision. In Lucy, it is hearing, so at the interview, she mostly talks about what she hears, touching objects related to the other world.

One more small explanation should be made here. In this world, it is believed that a ghost is always attached to some object - the Source. The destruction of such an object sends the ghost back to the underworld, so when going on a hunt, the agents always first of all look for the source itself, and it is not the powerful sources that the guys suggested Lucy comment on at the interview.

In the end, Lucy becomes a new employee of the agency and the adventures begin.

As you can immediately guess, each of the five books tells about some kind of adventure with ghosts, but there is a motif that ties them all together. According to the mythology of the world, no one knows how and why the influx of ghosts began, but everyone who deals with the problem is trying to find out. Likewise with the agency "Lockwood and Co", and with each book they get closer and closer directly to this information. I will not write spoilers from the last book now, but the ending amazed me, the whole way I would not even think about how it really is.
