Object of the week contest: Knives
The object of this week is knife. I don't know what prompted this particular object but I guess the contest host is looking for something in our post concerning knives. Generally, knives are among those ancient tools created by humans and was used even in the stone age.
These knives comes in different sizes, shapes and designed. It is primarily used for cooking, hunting and even medical practice in the hospitals. In this article so far as the object of this week is concerned, I'll tell you a brief history of Knives, types and how we can care for it.
Most of us may be surprised that knives has an history. Tracing thousands of years back in the stone age, when man first learned to make tools using flint, knives were one of those things made from a specific type of volcanic glass that could be sharpened to as smooth as that of a razor.
As the era evolved particularly now, knives are made using steel and iron. Handles are also attached to ease work and to avoid minor injuries. Imagine yourself using a sharp knife without handle. That's the brief history of knife from a volcanic glass to iron and steel.
There are various types of knives I've seen with my eyes. These are;
- Chefs knife which is usually long with a big blade for chopping easily and also slicing certain things.
- Bread knife
- Steak knife is a particular kind of knife used to cut into meats by butchers.
- Paring knife is the normal knife we use at home.
Most of us don't know how to care for knives. After using these knives, they keep it there or sometimes we leave it wet or in a moist place which can cause the blades to rust.
- After using a knife, wash it properly and dry it before storing it.
- Sharpening knives is also integral as it prevent it from blunting and keeps the edges as sharp as possible.
In as much as I've given major information about this object that can be used for good or bad purposes, knives serve a whole lot of purposes in the real life.
I invite @davidmarkgeorge, @imohmitch and @dorismos to join.
