COOKING CONTEST| MY BREAKFAST HALAPA

in Ukraine on Steemlast year (edited)

Hello Foodies

Hope you guys are doing good. This is my first post in this community. Thank you " Ukraine on Steem" for organizing this amazing contest and thank you @mariam.dariam for sharing this with us.

Breakfast is the most important meal among our three meals. We should always make sure that we have a balanced diet for our breakfast.

Today I'm going to share you an exquisite dish from my country. Halapa which is made out of Finger Millet, coconut, sugar and salt. This food is originated in Sri Lanka and dates back to the days of our great ancestors.

Finger Millet is one of the best nutritious cereals. Daily consumption of Finger Millet improves your bone health and it is a really good food for growing children and senior citizens. This also controls our blood sugar level and promises a good cardiac health.

So let's see how to prepare this delicious and highly nutritious "Halapa".

Ingredients

For the dough

Finger Millet - 1cup
Sugar - 2tsp
Salt - 1tsp
Luke warm water

For the filling - Pani Pol

Scrapped coconut - 1cup
Sugar - 1cup
Cardamom - 4
Cinnamon - 1 stick
Clove - 3
Luke warm water - 1 cup

For wrapping we need Kenda Leaves (Macaranga Peltata Leaves). If you cannot find Kenda Leaves you can use banana leaves or similar ones. If you cannot find any of these you can simply use foil papers.

Method

For the dough

  1. First add Finger Millet, sugar and salt in to a bowl and mix them well.

  2. Next add luke warm water gently and kneed a little.

  3. You will get a dough with a little wet texture. Then divide the dough into small balls and set aside.

For the filling

  1. First heat the pan.

  2. Next add 1/2 cup of sugar and let it be caramel.

  3. Then add luke warm water and remaining sugar and salt. Then stir well.

  4. After that add the grinded cardamom, clove and cinnamon. Then mix well.

  5. Once sugar have melted and the sugar syrup starts boiling add the scrapped coconut and mix well.

Now the filling is ready.

Now you can start wrapping.

You have to first apply oil on the leaf. And then flatten the balls of the dough as I have done.

Next place some filling (Pani Pol)

Finally fold it.

Once you have finished all wrapping, you have to get the Halapa steamed.

Steam it for 20mins.

Now it's ready !!!!!

Now you can take off the leaf and enjoy Halapa

Hope you like it. I'm stopping for today and would like to invite @kusal @besticofinder @vishwara to participate in this contest.

Thank You

Wow, much appreciated my friend. An important post. I enjoyed reading your post. Also Halapa in Sri Lanka is a very high quality dish. People living in the past were in good health by eating this kind of food.

Thank you ❤️
