Street Photography Contest Week I / Hajj pilgrims walking on the street
Hajj pilgrims walking towards Jamarat in Mecca, Saudi Arabia as a part of Hajj ritual.
Pilgrims have to come here in the morning after staying previous night at Muzdalifah (around 5 kilometres distance from Jamarat).
According to the Islamic belief, Jamarat are 3 stone pillars which are pelted as a compulsory ritual of Hajj in emulation of the Prophet Ibrahim (A.S). They represent the 3 locations where Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) pelted the Shaitan (Satan) with stones when he tried to dissuade Ibrahim (A.S) from sacrificing his son Ismail (A.S). Source
After pelting stones at Jamarat, pilgrims then walk for another 4 kilometers to the Holy Kaaba (the direction of prayer for Muslims around the world when performing salah).
I took this photo during my Hajj pilgrimage in 2019.
