Orb-weaver Spider on the Web

in Beauty of Creativity3 years ago

Hey Beauty of Creativity lovers! This is the Orb-weaver spider captured by my phone camera this afternoon. It builds the web among the grass on the banks of the Cunda River. As you can see, it's smothering its prey (I think it's a grasshopper) and wrapping it around with a silk web.

The Orb-weaver spider is a member of the Araneidae family. It is large, has eight eyes, spiked legs, and except for its fat abdomen, no other organ is more stridulating.

The Orb-weaver spider builds the web in the shape of spiral wheels. The web is not only a place to live, but also serves as a trap for its prey.

What's unique about the Orb-weaver is that it doesn't have to leave its web to find prey. All it does is wait to see if an insect hits the cobweb and gets stuck there.
