Yellow Hairy Flower Wasp (Radumeris tasmaniensis)
Yellow Hairy Flower Wasp (Radumeris tasmaniensis) belongs to Scoliidae family that composed of fairly large, stout-bodied wasps, often brightly patterned in shades of red and yellow, white, or one of these colors in combination with black. These wasps are parasitoids of soil-inhabiting scarab beetle larvae. In a certain situation, this wasp is usually a non-aggressive stinging insect so we don't have to worry about the sting. It stays under the genus of wasps belonging to the family Scoliidae. Yellow hairy flower wasp with wing color that changes according to its angle with the sunlight. The head and antennas are black. Like other wasps, this wasp is semi-social, existing in small colonies but without a true worker caste. Flower wasps are frequent visitors to flowers and due to their size and colour, are extremely obvious when drinking nectar. They are often seen visiting compost heaps or wood piles or flying around the dead stump of a tree. After being sometime involving in hide and seek, I was finally able to take some pictures with my smartphone. Known as The scoliid wasps, one of wasp species that is commonly found around shrubland area.
