Robberlfy (Assassin Fly) | 10% Beneficiary to shy-fox
I returned to the spot where I previously visited. Once I got there, I straightly noticed a robber fly standing nicely on the wild grass. Robber fly is known as a predatory insect. It is capable of paralyzing the prey by injecting a fluid into its victims. This capacity has made it called a robber fly and also called an assassin fly. It belongs to the family Asilidae in the order Diptera. I just spotted it was all alone in the middle of the grassland, I believe, it was waiting for the prey to come by. Besides being known as a predatory insect, a robber fly is also considered a resourceful lover that is capable of catching prey while flying but they and as flexible hunters that usually catch prey smaller than their body size. The following pics of robber fly were taken this afternoon somewhere around the grassland near the reservoir. Frankly, I often found this typical insect but I rarely took them with a DSLR.
The Asilidae are predators, both in the juvenile stage and the adult stage, and feed on small arthropods, mainly insects. Although predatory forms in the adult stage are present in other taxonomic groups of Diptera, the Asilidae are the most representative for the number of species and for uniformity of feeding behavior.source
