The eristalinus taeniops hoverfly is regarded as an insect that often brightly colored and mostly found in the garden which becomes one of the familiar insects that lives around us. Having black and yellow markings which sometimes makes us difficult to differentiate them from bees and wasps. Nevertheless, this hoverfly often amazes me with the color, especially the eyes with faded black markings. Considering, this hoverfly is a harmless insect, so I did not have to worry about the sting.
Besides having a fascinating appearance, the hoverfly is one of the important pollinators of flowering plants in a variety of ecosystems worldwide that frequently visits a wide range of plants, including agricultural crops, and is often considered as the second-most important group of pollinators after wild bees. This typical hoverfly has patterned eyes with obvious black spots. Many hoverflies larvae feed on pest insects, including aphids and the leafhoppers, which spread some diseases such as the curly top. This hoverfly belongs to the family Syrphidae, in the genus Eristalinus.
