Broad-handed Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa latipes)
This bee was buzzing around the lawn, sometime it stopped on the leaf. It's been quite a while, I don't see it hanging out there. So, right after noticing it from distance. I rushed taking photos from distance. It moved quite a lot during midday which made me waited for little longer to have good time for the shot. It is not like common bees such as honeybees, bumblebees, or other kinds of bees that live in colonies, carpenter bees are not included in social insects family. Xylocopa latipes, commonly called the tropical carpenter bee, is a species of carpenter bee whose habitat is often found in Southeast Asia. Just like its close relative, Xylocopa violacea or commonly known as the broad-handed carpenter bee X. latipes also inhabits forests in tropical climates and builds nests by digging holes into wood. The broad-handed carpenter bee is a very large, robust, solitary bee. It is shiny, fully black in colour with fuscous metallic blue-green or purple wings in sunlight.
