Black-Yellow Legged Mud Dauber |10% Beneficiary to shy-fox
Hello Beauty Lovers! I am glad to be back with some macro shots. This time I would like to share some pictures of black and yellow mud dauber that I accidentally found around the neighbor. Unlike the other days, this species was quite busy with flying here and there which made me barely take a shot but this afternoon, I found it a bit calm. That was a great chance to take pictures of this species even I had to deal with the light since the dark started swinging around. Mud dauber is considered as a solitary hunting wasp that preys on spiders, returning them to a previously constructed nest cell.
Mud dauber can be identified by having a black body with variable amounts of yellow markings. Like the common solitary hunting wasps, the mud dauber is not as aggressive as we thought, they rarely sting but they will do if they are held or trapped next to the body, so it is regarded unharmful wasp that may allow us to take the shot from closer range, Black-yellow legged mud dauber stays under the family of Sphecidae, in the genus Sceliphron.
There are some 30 other species of Sceliphron that occur throughout the world, though in appearance and habits they are quite similar to S. caementarium.source
