Black Brawny Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa latipes) | 10% Beneficiary to shy-fox
This species of big bee stays under the classification of carpenter bee, known as tropical carpenter bee (Xylocopa latipes) that generally found in tropical countries, and Indonesia is one of its best home to live in. During the daylight, as most bees, this species was quite busy flying and hovering over vegetation. As it is a big bee made it easy to spot but I needed some time to allow it stay calm so I could take the shots. Having DSLR eased me to capture it from a distance range as well as the way to avoid from its aggressiveness. I found this brawny black bee when I was in search of another insect in the bush. More I deal with the insects more amaze me about the nature and drag me to explore many more species in wilderness. This big black bee is known as the tropical carpenter bee (Xylocopa latipes) that was scientifically described by the English entomologist, Dru Drury in 1773,and is a member of the group of solitary bees (Family Apidae).
Xylocopa latipes, the tropical carpenter bee, is a species of carpenter bee widely dispersed throughout Southeast Asia. As its name suggests, this bee inhabits forests in warm tropical climates and constructs nests by burrowing into wood.source
