According to former President Donald Trump's legal team, a protective order proposed by special counsel Jack Smith would violate Trump's right to free expression.

The point was made by Trump's attorneys in their answer to the special counsel's application for a protective order over discovery information in the case against Trump for allegedly attempting to overthrow the 2020 election.
