Culture can be defined as a way of life for a particular people which is expressed through the clothes worn, food eaten or even languages spoken among others. Uganda is such a beautiful country which has numerous tribes which all speak different languages and generally each has its own unique culture.

Personally, I am from the South-Western part of Uganda from the Bafumbira tribe whose origin is said to be Rwanda when the boundaries of Uganda were demarcated in colonial times, the Bafumbira were cut from off from Rwanda and stayed in Uganda. Other sources say that the origin of my tribe especially of the bahinda is Karagwe.

The Bafumbira speak Kifumbura which has some similarities with Kinyarwanda. This tribe is based in Kisoro a town that is bordered by Congo and Rwanda. This town has parts of it that are hilly. The main meals had in this area are Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans and millet. We have a famous drink called omusururu which is basically a fermented millet drink which is tasty as sometimes sorghum is mixed in.

We put on a traditional wear known as Omushanana which is basically a long skirt which is usually puffy, a corset or a vest is put on and a light cloth is put on top that runs across the torso.
We have various traditions which include; Gusaba whereby if a girl is going to get married the groom has to come and ask for her hand in marriage but with the parents around and various gifts are brought which include flowers to be given to the bride.
