The first thought that comes to mind when you think of Sun, would definitely be the overwhelming damage it can cause to your skin or health, due to too much exposure. However, small amount of Sunlight, especially at the early hours of the day, before the Sun is at its brightest can be beneficial in so many ways.
How much Sunlight is enough for us, varies from one individual to another, as it basically depends on factors such as; Skin tone, Age, health history, diet and place of residence. Some scientist think that for a dark skinned person, an exposure of 5-15 minutes or 30 minutes, is about right to get the most out of it without causing any health problem. Some of the benefits of Sunlight are listed below:

(1) Vitamin D: The early morning Sun ultra violent rays helps the body produce vitamin D nutrient. This nutrient is important for your bones, blood cells and immune system, as well as helps you to absorb and make use of certain minerals like calcium and phosphorus. It is important to note that the shortage of Vitamin D, can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure as well as heart disease. Also, people living in a place where there is not much Sunlight can easily develop breast, colon, prostate and lung diseases.

(2) Improved Sleep: The early morning Sunlight helps people to sleep well at night, as the eyes need light to help set ones body internal clock. However, as one age, he/she is more likely to have problem going to sleep as the eyes are less able to take in light.

(3) Eye health: Moderate exposure to Sunlight, especially during your teen and young adult years, can eradicate the problem of near sightedness. However, too much exposure to direct sunlight, can also hurt the eyes, as it can cause blurred vision as well as increase your chances or risk of developing cataract.

(4) Emotional well-being: Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that gets boosted by sunlight. This chemical can give you enough energy as well as help keep you calm, optimistic and focused.

Conclusively, as human beings, we all need a fair amount of Sunlight to improve our general well being and also endeavor to avoid over exposure to Sunlight as it may be detrimental to our health too.
