High blood sugar can be painful and cause a long lasting damage throughout your body, but there are steps one can take to prevent problem or complications. Taking care of yourself when you have Diabetes takes effort. You need to check your blood sugar regularly, eat right, stay active as well as take your medications. This is important, because it can make a huge difference as well as help you avoid major problems throughout your body, even in areas you might not expect. It's advisable to religiously adhere to your treatment plan, so you can help slow them down or prevent them altogether. Some of the likely complications from being Diabetic is listed below:

(1) Impaired Vision: Diabetes can result to Glaucoma, a situation where there is more pressure on the eye. It can also lead to Cataracts, which has to do with the clouding of the eye's lens. Diabetes can harm/affect the blood vessels in the retina at the back of the eye, a condition the Eye physician terms Diabetic retinopathy. All these conditions listed above, can make ones vision worse or even lead to blindness. Thus, by the time you start noticing your eyesight fading or blurring, it means the eye already have a serious damage.

(2)Skin Condition: Some of your skin infection is directly connected to Diabetes. Your skin may become itchy and may feel thinner or thicker, and also the appearance of scaly or discolored patches. Diabetes can cause poor blood circulation and nerve problems which affects the skin too. It is advisable to maintain a healthy weight and also keep your blood sugar under control.

(3) Cavities and Gum disease: Diabetes can predispose you to mouth infection like gum disease or thrush, a fungal infection that can cause painful white sore. Plaque and cavities can also result due to uncontrolled high blood sugar. A study in 2015, found that Diabetic patient lose as twice as many teeth as those without the disease. It is advisable to visit your dentist when faced with such condition (bleeding gum or gum disease), and ensure regular brushing, flossing and rinsing with antiseptic mouthwash.

(4) Kidney Disease: The Kidney is filled with tiny blood vessels that filter out waste, which then leaves the body when you pee. However, High blood sugar over works these filters, as the kidney will have problems and stop working overtime. The better you put your blood sugar, as well as blood pressure in check, the better the health of the kidney.

(5) Stroke: Most Diabetic patient are more susceptible to stroke. As a stroke happens when one of the vessels that send blood to the brain gets weak, injured or blocked. And when this brain tissue does not get sufficient blood, it can become permanently damaged within minutes. Hence, constant exercise, maintaining healthy weight, controlling your blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as abstaining from Tobacco can prevent the damage from stroke

(6) Poor Sex Life: Diabetes can lead to erectile dysfunctional for the Men and women may have difficulty getting aroused as well as feel discomfort/pain during sex, due basically to nerve and blood vessel, which cut the blood flow.

(7) Heart Disease: The wear and tear on blood vessels as a result of Diabetes, means allot of extra work for your heart as people with diabetes tends to be over weight, have high cholesterol or blood pressure, and all this adds up to serious chance of a heart disease.
