I've been doing them few years ago by taking 12 photos with 30% overlap for a cylindrical view or 36 photos for full spherical 360 degree view and then combining them in Photoshop. Big amount of work and time. Now the 360 degree cams made that a bit obsolete. Still, the quality of my stitched panoramas is amazing, gigabyte jpg file, imagine :)
