EMERGENCY LOCK DOWN DRILL DRAMA

in RECREATIVE STEEM2 years ago

November 10 this year at 7pm was just an ordinary evening to us. All of us, students and teachers were so busy preparing ourself to went home since I belong to second shift/afternoon shift. Two shifts were done in our school, morning and afternoon shift due to lots of students but the classroom can't accomodate everyone if we will have a regular whole day class.

Going back to my story, when I am about to went upstairs there was a shoot out that happened outside the campus. Unfortunately, the victim was able to get inside the campus that caused trauma to many students. But thank God everyone were safe only trauma. The victim was so thankful to our school because if he was not able to get in, he might be dead that time. At least, he was given a chance to change all his bad doings.

Due to the incident, the management decided automatically to cancel the class the next day and had a psychosocial activity with the teachers to be relay to them with the learners.

Afterwards, we teachers were also had a short seminar about Emergency Lockdown led by our DRRM Officers. We were told what to relay to our kids if there were emergency incident will happen especially when there were intruders and penetrators that will get in our campus.

The following were the things that we need to relay to our kids:

  1. Close the entrance and exit door.
  2. Make a barricade to both doors.
  3. Switch off the light as well as the monitor.
  4. Hide
  5. When it is all clear, check the attendance.
  6. Wait for the officer to say its clear before going back to class.

After relaying those things to our learners and showing them videos about it, the next day we now made a drill without telling them that it was a drill. The DRRM officers hired students who will become the penetrators. During that time, they brought metal, and some play gun and they shouted all floors of the buildings. They also knock on the doors and some had a scene on a certain lobby of the building. And to those students who were still outside and wasnt able to hide, they take them then the officers told them what to do next time.

Some kids were nervous and some cried because they taught that it was already for real. But we thank God thay all students were really doing a great job because they were able to follow the steps when there were incident like that that will happen in the future.

The incident really caused us trauma so we think that this drill will minimize the trauma next time because all of us already had an idea on what to do next time.
