Arts has been around us from the early age of man. Creativity is part of art and man has been producing and making new things in the form of arts...from painting, photography, dance, music to poetry. Man has found ways to tell stories using arts.

Today I will be telling stories about my state through pictures. I know you would love to read stories about my state.

          Akwa Ibom State

Ever heard of the name Akwa Ibom state? If You have, that is wonderful, if you haven't, then let's explore Akwa Ibom state.

Akwa Ibom state is in the southern part of Nigeria and is on the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Akwa Ibom state is divided into 31 Local Government Areas, which has a lot of towns, villages and cities. It is a developing state and is known to be a fast developing state. Akwa Ibom is home to tourist attractions in Nigeria. Akwa Ibom encourages arts and culture and puts it in the forefront of development. Arts can also be seen in over 10 languages spoken in the state, some of which are; Ibibio, Annang, Oro, Ekid, Ibeno, itu mbuno uso, okobo etc.

We know that with arts, the world will continue to be beautiful and lovely to behold. I will be delving into arts in Akwa Ibom state through the following areas Photography, dance, drawings and paintings.

 Photography of Akwa Ibom People

The Akwa Ibom people are lovely people, they are known to be beautiful and handsome. We have a special attire which uses a cap called Itam in Ibibio Language, a wrapper and a chieftaincy gown. This attire is always beautiful to behold. We are a colourful people. We love ambience and warmth, reasons our colour is orange.

You can see the beauty and love in this photos...arts is celebrated in Akwa Ibom; our style of clothing is testament to that.

 Celebrating arts through our dance

We love celebrating arts through our dances. Our dances are coordinated and can express rhythms through the drums and xylophones. We have different musical equipment we can use in producing musics which we dance to. Our dance can be used to express happiness, sorrow, joy and to pass a message.

Dancers are adorned with beads, clays, and wrappers which they use in dancing. This is to make them beautiful and lovely to behold. The essence of arts is to portray beauty, ambience and warmth.

As you can see the dancer in the picture, she is being adorned and ready to dance with her newly wedded husband. This was how marriages were done in time Past and it was portrayed in this dance.

         Painting and crafts

Arts can be shown through crafts and painting, this is one talents that the Akwa Ibom people exhibits daily. The Masquerade uses a crafted out face from wood. It is called 'iso Ekpo' in Ibibio Language which means Masquerade's face. It takes time to get the exact image of this masquerade, but as you can see it was carefully designed. This shows that even before modernization, Akwa Ibom people were good artists and could produce magnificent arts.

As seen above is a pot made from aluminium. Akwa Ibom has Aluminium as a natural resources and artist can use Aluminium in making pots as seen above. I witnessed the three hours production of the pot above, and the man who did it used simple and crude tools to produce it.

In our state/country, we celebrate arts and we hope artist won't just be celebrated once a year but everyday.
We celebrate arts and give room for it to flourish.

Thanks for going through my post, I hope you can feel the way we celebrate arts in my state and country.

I invite @imohmitch, @davidmarkgeorge and @onlyonefave to participate in this contest.

This is what makes Africa... AFRICA! Rich in color and culture.
Not only have you managed to share the art of Africa and, in particular, your region, but you have also shared a lot of information. That is what I like, to be able to learn from a post.

Good luck with the contest!

Thank you very much @patjewell, i am really grateful. I learn everyday from your content.

Pleasure!☕

That’s quite a masquerade to behold. I’ve seen many but not one with this face so long. When I was growing up, I had a masquerade that fascinated me so much in my village. It was the Ijele masquerade. I don’t know if you’ve heard of it?

Beautiful pictures depicting arts and culture you have here. Thanks for sharing and I wish you success in the engagement

I haven't heard of the Ijele masquerade before, i would love to see it though. And thank you for your kind words and also dropoing by on my post.
