El Hombre del juego / The Man of the game | ESP-ENG
EL COMETA DE CAROLINA / CAROLINA'S COMET
Major League Baseball over the years has seen parade great players, Pete Rose, Babe Ruth, to name a few, but there are many who have gone through MLB, we would spend a lifetime naming them, players who have marked a history within this game, crossing borders on and off the field, but I think that as Roberto Clemente, nicknamed the Carolina Comet, a native of Puerto Rico I think there has not been one like him.
EL HOMBRE DEL JUEGO / THE MAN OF THE GAME
This player does not belong to my generation, but his impact on this game has been such that it has transcended generations, a person who likes baseball and has not heard any story of Roberto Clemente is simply not in anything, and more if he is Latin American, what Roberto Clemente did in the big leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates set the standard for all Latin American players.
Roberto's characteristics were such that they covered many fields in the big leagues, in his debut and career in the United States in the decade of the 60's and 70's, good defense and a respectable arm that intimidated those of that time, always placing the ball in the place where he was aiming, almost always taking out the runners who were moving on the bases.
With the bat he was always very outstanding, his way of batting also influenced in this game and in the Pirates team, team with which he spent his entire professional career, he left very good numbers, and the best of all was to have reached the figure of 3000 thousand hits, a figure that for the characteristics of a player like him, added more to his attributes.
All this had Roberto Clemente and made him a very complete player, unique in his class and unique among Latin Americans, in such a way that his number 21 was used years later by many players not only in his native Puerto Rico, but also in other countries, becoming an idol, using his image for various events in the major leagues.
The bridge behind the current stadium of the Pirates in major league baseball bears his name, this as recognition of what Roberto was in life for both the team and the city, another recognition or something with his name is, the current award that bears his name; ''Roberto Clemente Award''.
This award is the recognition to all the ball players whose charitable works are like the ones he did in life, as a kind of legacy, which he left, because he was also a person who helped a lot to the most needy people, which led him to move to many places to help his fellow man.
EL NÚMERO 21 SIEMPRE SERA DE EL / NUMBER 21 WILL ALWAYS BE HIS
Other of the things for which this player was recognized, was for his number 21, several players in the past as Sammy Sosa, Carlos Delgado used his number following his steps, as well as many others, to take his same steps, which also led the major leagues to adopt a special day for him, where all players would use his number in his honor.
Roberto Clemente lost his life in a very tragic and regrettable way, on a day like today, December 31, Roberto was about to go to help some people in Nicaragua, a population of that country that had been damaged by the earthquake that had happened to them, but a plane crash ended with a legacy that had been very influential and that to this day is remembered as one of the greatest baseball players of the major leagues and one of the people with more heart that has ever been seen in this sport..
This message for January has a new image.
